i grenaded my 4.3 this weekend and am going to buy a new gm crate motor but i have a few questions.
my motor was the early model with out the counter balance shaft .
what year did they start putting in the counter balance shaft?
what year did they start putting on the vortec heads?
what is the last year of the tbi units?

why even mess around with the TBI other than i asume thats what you set it up with first
i would get a 95 engen with the smpi that has 50 more HP and there are several people that make aftermarket wireing for them
as for the balenceing shafts i dont know if any of the tbi ones had them i think all the smpi had them
you could get tbi up to 94-95 i think but smpi was also avalable in those years i think the smpi started in 93

moral to the story.....don't listen to her.

700R4 auto's. Not sure which manuals. 700R4 is definitly worth keeping. Lowest 1st gear and overdrive. Not as cheap to rebuild, but they can be rebuilt pretty damned stout! Either way, a 4.3 has the same bellhousing bolt pattern as a small block Chevy, so any SBC tranny will bolt up to it.
