I'm sorry you feel that way. This bb is a awsome tool and a real resource for some of us, not to mention all the people that I have met and the places I have had the chance to wheel. Everytime the Tin Benders go on a run we meet more and more folks from Pirate4x4. It's only 20 bones, well atleast to me it is.:(

I thought I would crawl out of the Toyota cave and chime in on this one.

Considering that this site basically tought me how to build my toy for rocks and how to do it right, I have no problem tossing $20 Lance's way. I bet he busts his ass keeping this site up and if nothing else it's just to show a little appreciation. Don't look at it like your putting money in his pocket. It's only 20 frickin bucks for a year caome awn!! I havn't done it yet but I will.

It aint really about the $20, I aint afraid to spend money (ask bobaki!). Heck I can be downright foolish (have you seen my spidertrax battery holdown), but thats another story.

The whole point of having to pay to provide content for someones venture just seems backwards. Yeah Lance is nice, yeah this is a cool bbs, but its the content (provided by the people), that is the real draw. People come here to see informative posts. The kind some of us take the time to provide. When I wrote an article for 4WD&SU they sent me a mountain of film, and $600 bucks when it was published. ORC gives me nothing, but at least I don't have to pay.

This reminds me of a thing music was going through in LA in the 80s called "pay to play", where bands where actually paying clubs to play hoping to get exposure. Bassackwards. So for now I'll just sit back and listen to the music, but I won't "pay to play".

I feel that the $20 that is asked for priveliges on this board is more than fair. IMHO it really doesn't begin to cover the actual costs. Ask Lance what it costs him for his ISP. Ask him what his hardware costs are. Ask him how much time he actually spends upgrading and upkeeping the machine. This is probably his full time job now. What should it pay? How long could you keep afloat operating gratis? I have been floating around here for months, with no real input, but I feel pretty strongly about this. I paid my money as soon as I found out it was needed. Resources like this are needed for the community, and how many of you would spend that same 20 on beer or cigarettes in a days time? I would rather spend the money now, knowing that maybe this board will be here when I find something intelligent to ask.

DIDNT I READ SOME WHERE THIS WAS TO GET RID OF THE POP UPS AND SUCH STUFF this site has been a great source of info and ideas. I could care less about and avtar or a custom name i'd just pay it to support the board. (after I ok it with the boss:flipoff2: ) just my $.02

I'm sorry, but I have to say that I'm with scwafish on this one. Even if I was going to donate I don't even have a credit card to do so. I think everybody should still be able to post pics. If someone needs help with a project and requires pics how are people like me suppose to help them out?! i can't remember the last time i used this site for anything other than the bb. and while i know it's not free to keep it going i'm not happy with this :rainbow: solution. if you want to call it that. what the hell was wrong with the popups anyways? they make programs that can kill popups. so i have to ask... wtf was the problem? that is to say until this star poop came up.

The problem with popups, is that the advertisers log where you jump from, and when the popups that they sell to Lance do not return any hits, they stop buying banners and stuff. This site is now a business for him. No income, no site. That simple.:eek:

you may be the nicest guy in the world, i don't know, haven't met you. it's cool that you have an interest in something that others including myself are all sharing here at this site.
that being said, nothing against you personally, but i think the whole point is this ISN'T a "business". it's a privately owned website run for the enjoyment of the owner, with the participation of others. it just seems with some of your statements, they came across as a "sales pitch" rather than just participation for it's own sake. it's not a matter of "censorship" i don't believe as you said on the gutsquisher board, or getting "banned for not agreeing" with the powers that be here on this board. moaning and thinking you're being a martyr because you're treated similarly by at least two seprate bbs' should tell you something. really, (now that i've horribly offended you...) i don't mean to sound holier than thou or anything, just an observation on my part, with a subject that struck a chord.
