: Hydro steering
fatkid 11-25-2001, 08:40 PM Anyone run full hydro steering or hydro assist, I had the chance to see Camo's set up and it is Bad Ass! One finger with 38's, I'm thinking hard about it. Not that the Sammy needs full Hydro but its one of the most biatch'n things I've seen. It "fully Gets it"!!!!
I know one of you ladies has something to say.:flipoff2:
scwafish 11-25-2001, 08:45 PM If you need it its ok, but the ones I've been around had NO feel, NO return to center, and really cut down on the "touch". If your not running 40"+ or have enough travel to swallow a draglink, it ain't worth it. But what do I know, I'm not even allowed to post a pic!!!!
High5 11-25-2001, 08:47 PM what steering do you run now? does it work? i think the hydro assist is great "IF" you need it. i see alot of people running it and i have a feeling alot of it has to do with the "cool" factor (or as i like to call it "boner factor"). anyway if your rig has troubles in the steering dept. then it might be for you but if your steering works leave it. there is less to go wrong. i feel less is more in alot of cases if you can get by with it. just my op.
fatkid 11-25-2001, 08:56 PM I agree with ya that there is alot more to go wrong. As for the boner factor, ya it's big part but seeing Camo steering gave me a HUGE BONER. I'm just woundering what and if anyone is running the Hydro set up. As for my steering ,I run the stock armstrong set up. It's never really bothered me until I ran Wrecking Ball at the Hammers this weekend, and then that Night we ran Sledge and then in the morning we ran Jack. I think I have Tennis elbow from running back to back ass kicking trails!:smokin:
High5 11-25-2001, 09:34 PM the two guys i know with power steering on their samis both run 36's and waggy axles. one runs the kick steering and the other runs toyota and neither has problems steering the 36's.
scwafish 11-25-2001, 11:32 PM Fatty-no ps at all??? Are you freakin crazy??? Callin me cheap? Come awn, spark up the new tools and get busy!
fatkid 11-25-2001, 11:57 PM It's not the money, I never felt like I had the need for it. But these last few trips have givin me Carple tunnle, along some serious forarms. But now that you mention it, if I build somthing it'll be good.:D

First , how long have they been running the kick steering with 36's? Mine didn't last long. So I went with Assist............' and loving it!!' . Yes it doesn't return to center. No biggie, you get used to it on the first corner , when you drive up on your neighbours lawn.....LOL. No feel, a good thing to me. Its like having the worlds bigest stablizer on your truck.
I used a saginaw box and chevy pump and a 2"x8" ram. DIY.

the one with the kick steering has been running it for about two years and the 36's for about 3 or 4 months. not long with the 36's but he does wheel almost every weekend.

Rudezuk 11-27-2001, 08:11 AM Im running the kick setup on mine and can turn one hand in the rocks at 3psi.....ive been running kick for a while now too!
The thing that is bad about a kick is you cant get a drop pitman arm for it, so you have to make one..
If you have too much lift on the draglink has too much angle the box and pump will wear out quick.
I do get a little bumpsteer and a little wonder on the road, but who cares about that, it works very well on the trail!
Fatty, get the kick set up, High steer on the toy axles, and have a pitman arm made to the kick box! You will love it!
Brent at TT sells this kit for pretty damn cheap!!!
fatkid 11-28-2001, 11:12 PM I'm pretty sure we could make the arm, we make Toy arms all the time. Now that you mention it maybe I will just buy one, I've got no time to tear the Zuk apart and come up with a set up. Whats it cost? Throw me a bone, or a link.:D
Rudezuk 11-29-2001, 09:14 AM The mounting kit is 129 from TT, and then he should also have the pump and box......what i did for the pitman arm was take a 4" YJ arm, machine out the center of both and preplace the YJ with the Kick Center.....then i bored it out to fit the YJ tie rod ends.
The whole setup will probably cost about 500 or so, unless you have access to a cheap box and pump...
