: Which GM had the last NP205????!
Hemogoblin 06-13-2003, 09:13 PM Ok, so I did enough searching to last me a life time and came up with info saying that up to 91, the GMC trucks had the NP205??? But everywhere I look, from rebuild transfer case parts websites, to wrecking yard search engines, they all list the NP241 as the t-case in those trucks during those years? Even the AA website says that up to 91 they were available but I can't seem to find them. Anyone know? All info seems to indicate that after 1980, the 205 was replaced with the 208, and that with the 241. I want the latest version possible b/c I've heard that they have the VSS installed and it would save me some $$$ and headaches. Thanks!
Cheers,
Steve
Scout Dude 06-13-2003, 09:15 PM did you look into 1 tons? They still used 205's while the 3/4's and 1/2 tons went 241.;)
Hemogoblin 06-14-2003, 06:18 AM The one tons as in the 3500 series trucks? Yup, checked those too. Any idea what engine size I should be searching too?
Cheers,
Steve
K5thing 06-14-2003, 06:34 AM They came in all one tons from I believe 80 to 87. Then they came in all crew cab one tons which also had the old body style until 91. It shouldn't matter what engine size.
nvrenuf 06-14-2003, 09:35 AM You guys probably already know but I cover it just in case...
In 88 GM changed the body style to the "round" trucks, like the Z71's (C series = 2wd / K series = 4wd). At the same time the Blazers, Subs, crew cabs and some cab & chassis trucks retained the older square boldy style until 91 (R series = 2wd / V series = 4wd).
The V series one tons could have had a 205 case, the 90 & 91 trucks would have the VSS set up.
For sure you could have bought a 1991 (old body style) V3500 with a 205 (with VSS). I personally have a 91 crew cab with a 4l80e/205 combo.
Not all 80-87 one tons had 205's, some had 208's (for example: 84 military one ton CUCV's had 208's).
u2slow 06-14-2003, 06:26 PM My '91 crewcab has an SM465/NP205 with the VSS. '90-older crewcabs have cable drive speedos.
BigBlockBurris 06-14-2003, 07:01 PM My 91 V-3500 had a 465-205 with VSS from the factory. I swapped the 465 for a turbo 400. Like was said above all 90 and 91 V-3500 use VSS, so I geuss that narrowed down your search a little huh?

Hemogoblin 06-14-2003, 10:26 PM Thanks guys. The only problem I've been having finding any info on the t-cases is that when I use let's say the Rockauto.com website, it lists the majority of trucks having the NP241 (I checked this by looking at the rebuild kits for the transfer cases). And when I looked at the cases for the 90-91 V-3500 trucks, they listed a BW case, actually two of them, and no NP case? I believe you guys when you say you have the cases in your rigs but the problem is in finding them. All the ones so far I've checked in the yards are 241's....just my luck I guess. I'll still keep searching though but you guys have helped a lot. Thanks :)
Cheers,
Steve
Hemogoblin 06-14-2003, 10:29 PM Funny thing but I just checked the Rockauto website under a 1990 V3500 pickup, 5.7L and it DID list the NP205 case! At least now I have a positive match to look for at the yards :D Thanks!!!!

u2slow 06-14-2003, 10:35 PM Have a look at www.car-part.com and www.mypartshop.com.
Both are Hollander-based systems, so they make C/K and R/V distinctions. I got hits on both. Make sure you search for a '91 model if you need the VSS. 85-90 are lumped together as being the same thing (mechanical speedo).
Hammerlock 06-16-2003, 01:12 PM I have a 4l80e and NP205 from a '91 sitting in the garage. :D
Hemogoblin 06-16-2003, 02:44 PM Thanks everyone and yes, I did use mypartshop.com but no case was found close by. Oh well, my luck. But I have a NP241 pass. drop here with a VSS from a 91 and I think I'll just get the slip yoke eliminator and use this case. It has available gears and is 2.7 to begin with. I figure it'll be strong enough to handle what I need it for now. Thanks for all the help guys :D
Cheers,
Steve
