i know how to do it!!!!!!!!!!
my brother the engineer major thinks that to do it you just swap the hangers around and that this is the correct way to wheel. toyota didn't build it right.
question is does it really matter? have a 70 fj 40 full width dana 44 spring over going to run 35" tires. and can i reverse the front and leave the rear stock? will be climbing anything for dirt, sand and rocks.
just looking for any ones .02$:)

--- what are you talkin about? im lost. you mean can you s/r the frotn and leave the rear suspension stock?...if so then of course you can. why wouldnt you? i was pondering wether or not to s/r when i did soa..and i love it! havent wheeled it but have flexed it on some stuff. its just fukin bad ass! gotta love goin over speed bumps and the front end diving forward. hell yeah!:p

shackle reversal works killer. i did one one my fj it drives better on the street and off road. just take the spring hanger from the rear of the front spring and move it to the front. use some DOM tubing that is the same size as your bushings and french it into the frame.

If you do the SR and flip the spings you will gain about 4 inches of approach angle in the front and get rid of that aweful Cruiser overhang.

Overrated, maybe, however I will say that the approach angle I have now is unbelievable compared to the way it was before.
I used the stock FJ-40 springs and reversed them. I used the Toyota spring hangers and placed them at the end of the frame, plus I sent it out an additional 1.5 inches.
In the rear, I mounted the shackle under the frame, not through it.
I got an additional 6 inches of wheelbase by doing this in the front. Add the FJ-55 springs in the rear and I have a 100" wheelbase.
Unbelievable difference from the stock 90" wheelbase.
I recommend doing it for the approach angle alone.

Yep shackle reversals are the way to go on a Cruiser.

Yeah i'm doing one myself soon to turn my pinion down a little in front.
I just said that cause it doesn't help on road IMHO I can run down the road balls to the wall with 38 Swampers NP.
And some say they help on road but I think it's other things that make them wonder, like the stock steering:D :D

I can't tell the difference in handling and ride quality, but if you even think that you may need the apporach angle improvement, this is the time to do it.
Toyota's mamma didn't raise no fool.

This may be a stupid question but if the purpose of a shackle reversal is to get the wheels to move up and away from the obstacle, what would the purpose be in reversing the rear shackles when the spring hanger is already in front?
newbie? so what?

I have never herad of a shackel reversal on the back. Sounds like a bad idea to me.

Um yea I have never heard of anyone doing this It would be completley pointless and prob. would make your rig handle like crap.

One concern with the front shackle reversal is the driveshaft....it will now actually need some spline length, since it moves away from the TC on extension and towards it on compression.
Stock is like 4" travel. I had to go with a 11" travel shaft to keep it from separating at max droop.
IMO, front shackle reversals only make a huge handling difference because most times, steering ends, bushings, etc are all corrected at the same time. And, with flat SOA springs, the way the axle reacts to an obstacle is indecental...up and forward vs up and backward....
That being said, I did reverse mine when I did the SOA work. No complaints.
