: Steering box location

I have my steering box(IFS unit) clampted to the frame of my 1985 4runner.I read the allpro instructions(front hole 7" from front of frame),But it looks to me that it would fit pretty much no-problem @5.5 inches from the front of frame.Would that be better? Also the angle sugested by allpro(both lower holes centered in the frame)doesn't seem to point the gears input shaft directly to the shaft??I have tilted the box back alittle and get rid of the angle.I have searched this forum looking for pictures and have found nothing very helpful.I would like some different opinions on locations/reasons why before I start cutting/welding.

Thanks:D

Move it as far forward as you can. Mine is into the body-needed a little clearancing with a grinder to do so but looks good. My holes are pretty much centered also, I think the one closest the cab is a little bit higher, but not by much. About a 1/4 inch underneath the rounded box end when tilted.

Here's mine on my 86. I gutted the radiator support to get it all in there. Tons of clearance with my chevy rod ends....enough to move the axle forward an inch at least.

like mentioned already, move it as far forward as possible. my buddy did the 7" like All-pro said and he had to eventually move the box again.so he moved it all the way forward without cutting anything and it works good now

also, if you dont have enough tilt on your steering box,the pitman arm will slam into the springs when compressed. so i would tilt it up as far as you can without frame interference

Yep what he said, mine is a c**t hair away from the core support.

Also, I know about the second one because I now run a flat pitman arm w/rancho 44044s in stock mounts and axle spring pads drilled for 1" forward. It still hits a tiny bit, but best compromise between lift, travel, and tire size.
