Now that we have all seen it I am quite impressed! Although I would have liked a little more thought go into the boat part other than just adding pontoons to the vehicles.

Well the Russians had a pretty cool setup, but I new the chain drive was going to go in the rocks.

I did like the Brits and the cherokee and thought that their driving skills were pretty slick, boy they used that armor they put on the front for sure!

Wasn't the advisor the the American Team a Visitor or member to this board?

If so I would say good Job!! One or two questions however if you are reading this.

Did you consider making a set of paddles out of a old set of rims and some plate for the rear wheel for the water phase?

And how much time do you "really get"?

Also it looks like you are pretty much limitless on things like tubing, plate, spare engine parts, etc. Is this the case or do you have to scrounge some or all of this stuff?

What did everyone else think about it?

That was a pretty sweet episode. Yeah from what I remeber the American's advisor was a visitor to this board. And the two ladies that they talked to from JP Offroad participated in the CalRocks competition, that was just held. I like the Russian's design too, but like you said that chain drive was just too weak. The Cherrokee was really usin that front armore. I was thinking a custom lift could have done the trick (but not enough time to do that). The Americans, I knew from the start would do really good through the rocks, and the drag. But why didn't they have a fan on thier engine during the water run? Was it because it would hit the water?
And to answer a couple of your questions, the best I can.
I never thought of the paddle idea, but it seems like it would work, except for the fact that you have to start on land and finish on land, so what would you do on the land?
From what I know, I think you get the amount of time that they actually give you on the show.
I think that you actually have to scrounge up everything you use, but if you noticed, it was the largest jusnkyard they have used yet. And that thing looked huge.
I thought it was pretty damn good, and they need to have more of those.

I missed it, Driving through the snow from lakewood to ft.col to lakewook to boulder:mad3:. I do know that the "junkyard" is seeded befor hand with items that the shows engeneering teem decides will be needed to complete the challange .The competitors just need to find the goods.

Save the ten spot, it'll be on again. Wednesday at 9pm
EDIT: Missed the "in the sticks" part, never mind. Find a friend that has cable and offer to pet sit for the night.

Could you imagine just torchin up a Dana 60 like that!

Why didn't the Americans not just disconnect the radiator and suck up cool lake water for engine cooling?

I have not seen it either.. been in the poor house for 4 years... had not cable or TV for that matter. Wish it was the POR house but noooooooooooo.... (it wasnt jail either... they live better in jail than I was living)

I got cable set up yesturday sooooo.... what network runs the show? Ill bet its a cable channel I dont get.

Would u beleave the next step up in cable channels I can get almost tripples the price of my cable. What happened to the days when you could select your channels and just pay for those you want.

coach, I've wondered the same thing about the cale companies......back in the day, it was good. Anyway, to answer your question, the junkyard wars show is on TLC - usually on Weds at 7pm - or is it 8? They're also going to show the Mega-Wars show again on Weds at 8pm. Anyone know if/when they're gonna show the bloopers episode again? I missed that one.

I thought the Americans kinda whimped in a way.
The Russians went all out creating a rig designed for most of the course, from scratch.
The Brits tore apart a running Cherokee and added some pontoons, an outboard ( that didn't work ) and good skid protection. Other than that it was a stock Cherokee.
The Americans took an older straight axled Chev that already had a lift, bigger tires, a strong ( and looking sorta beefed ) small block, tore most of the body off and added the pontoons and a drive shaft mounted prop ( I thought that was kinda cool ). So from the get-go the Americans had the advantage.
I didn't really see it as a head to head comp. The Americans were the winners from the first flag.
The Russians came up with the most radical rig. It would have been cool if that Rover had worked out for the Brits.
It was pretty entertaining for the most part. That Jason guy for the Americans was pretty authoratative. Looked like they were going to get into it at one point. Cool idea w/the bag of oil in the diff though.

I considered this option, too - thought they stood a decent chance of finding a set of rear dually wheels to swap on for the water run - reguar tires on the insides, paddles on the outside:D

The Dually idea is a good one and I thought about that also.

If you did not go the dually route. I would have simple skidded it on the pontoons with the front dragging it in and out of the water.

The whole cool engine thing is beyond me and why they did not just put the intake in the lake. I would have done that for sure! And they would have walked all over everyone if they did that.

I also would have found some barrels, those pontoons about did them in.

I liked the russians and thought that they conformed to the idea of the race better than the other two. I would have given them style points.

i thought the outboard on the cherokee was a smart idea, but it was a hell of a finish at the end of the race suprisingly the russians pulled that off. But it was a great show.
