Lance,

I have been part of many small Non-Profit Corp. including holding the position of Executive Officer. May I suggest on the page you listed a link for above that you say something about how the $20 donate fund is going to be spent.

Also as the fun gets over $100 then you might consider a link to a showing of of the major comming in and going outs of the money. Include in this items needed but not yet purchansed (future items) so as the $$ increases beyond the amount being used folk will know the $$ is not profit but to be slated for these future items.

Has their been a vote taken to pay stipend or salery to any of the webmasters etc. this should be disclosed as well. An expense that is worthy in my book.

OK, I'm signed up, I think memberships are a good idea Lance, I have been doing it over at ColoradoK5.com since September and it really helps with the costs of running a high traffic site. A twenty spot a year is nothing and money well spent to keep this site going.

ok i'm sending the $20 bucks as soon as i figure out this Pay Pal crap.
but could you tell me the reasons why the Pirate board is now a pay site?
8000 * 20 = $160,000 per year.

thats a big chunk of change.

i hope i don't piss you off by asking these Q's. but i'm interested in knowing why there has to be a charge of $20 bucks. if there are paople like your self that have been doing it for free for years why does the Pirate need $20 bucks per person per year?

or do you know that there will only be %20 give the 20 bucks.?

maybe a brake down of what it costs to run a page this big.

i'm only asking the Q's that others are too much of pussys to ask.

The POR board is not a "pay site" All Lance has done is offer a service ito the people that do not want to see the banners, this being in a form of a donation. I think that $20 bucks a year is a drop in the bucket for the kind of information that this BBS can give someone.

Whats great is that if you dont want to make a donation to the POR website then you dont have to and you can still use all of the functionality of the page, you'll just be seeing the banners.

Lance

steelman, this is NOT a pay site. You can simply choose to loose your banners and get a few extra features by donating 20 bucks to the poor, hungry, unemployed webdaddy. ;) you don't have to pay to be here. Never have, never will.

Assuming only 1/2 the members kick in it would only be $80K right, then take out server, network charges and all the other costs it takes to run a business.

Lance has been running this site after his full day at work and has done a great job, but think how much better it could be if he made this site his full time job. He could write up all sorts of tech, trip reports and really expand the site. It could really become the heart of off roading on the net.

I fully support this and will get my $20 to him somehow, pay pall sucks.

Hey lance how about an address we can send money to?

Most of use spend more on 4x4 mag's that tell us nothing so get over it and send in $20.

I second that for a physical address. I'm ready to donate to the cause but will not use paypal. I tried to use my card but that darn paypal kept coming back up, I wont pay for a transaction fee period!
I would also like to see a list of donaters and what coachgeo3 mentioned.

Screw you guys that think this should be non profit. This site kicks ass! I would pay way more to be able to hang out here. I hope Lance makes some serious coin doing this. He deserves every penny for the info that this site provides!

Lance,

You don't owe any explanations for where any of your money goes. This site provides way more than $20 per year of enjoyment and info. I am glad to be a part of it, and glad that I can kick in a little money to allow you to keep this thing up and running, and maybe even do some wheeling on the side.

Oh yeah, and whoever it was that said 8000x20=160,000 is not thinking of the fact that probably no more than 500-1000 people will actually step up and kick in the bucks. So Lance may see $10,000 to $20,000 per year less expenses, at most. That is peanuts for a full time job, so I wouldn't grudge him a penny of it.

Good job on the board Lance, Brandon, Camo, Seabass, DRM, and all the others who help out.

I have questions. Is this to keep you and you family fed and warm during this difficult period? Is this to keep the site up?

I wouldn't bat an eye to help you and your family. Just say so and I'll bring a c note to the meeting tomarrow.

While I applaud you for all you have done here, at this time I would not pay for a few extra prevlidges.

The offer I extended to you at CalRocs is still good.

I third what was previously said about is there a physical address we can send this to. I just don't trust the internet with sending money around whether it be credit card or paypal, and there are proably others like me.

The money is going to ME. For now, this IS my income. I do not have a job. I'll tell you how much I make, if you tell us your finanaces. It really isn't anyone's business how much I make. You either support the BB (me) by contributing $20, or you don't. :) 82FB is absoulutely correct in saying that only a small few of you will most likely contribute. I sure as hell ain't gonna get rich quick.

Anyone who wants a mailing address can PM me for info. :)

Regarding the donation of money to Pirate4x4.com. This site has NEVER been free. Someone, some were, has ALWAYS covered the costs so that the users would not have to help pay the costs but now it is the users turn to pitch in and support wheeling.

I think it is about time that Lance gets paid for the effort he has made for the last 7+ years! This site is a FULL time job and the servers and hosting probably cost over a thousand dollars per month. In 1995 when I hosted the site at my company it was by far the highest bandwidth user with even more traffic than fortune 500 companies. I can only imagine how much the hosting costs now.

If you don’t want to support the site with some cash then support it by viewing some ads. Either way Pirate4x4 is a great value at $1.66 per month. After anther site I was using almost went off line due to rising costs I suggested to them ( http://www.hometheaterspot.com/ ) that they ask for help and everyone gave them a hand which has resulted in a much better site for all.

I know that Lance did this only for the good of Pirate4x4 and not to make tons of money. If you look at the history you would find that Lance and Pirate4x4 have made a huge contribution to our sport and will continue to do so.

I can’t think of a better place to contribute to our sport with all that this site has done to grow and insure the future of wheeling. I am sure that it was difficult for Lance to take this site to the next level and ask for help but time will show it was the right thing to do.

This Christmas give the gift of wheeling to others and keep this site alive.

I am happy to kick in $20. I have certainly saved that much from using info I found here.
