: Messed up PC mouse...help?
I have a year old Sony Viao PCand I am using a Microsoft Intellimouse ( optical) and running XP. I ahve had no problems until today... with the mouse.
The optics are clean and the surfacae it moves on is clean. My problem is the mouse reacts slowly ..
example ... I click on a paragraph to copy and it takes 2 -4 full seconds to copy . It acts like it's not going to.. then it happens.
When moving the mouse it gets jerky and slow. The wheel also advacnce jerky and slow .
I went into the control panel and tried different speeds/setting and changed functions with no solution.
What da ya think?
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Bennett
How much free space do you have on your drive? Clear the temp folder and ditch your internet cache
I have 3 gig left open of free space on my C drive.
Cleared the cache and temp files.. still draggin mouse butt !
any other suggestions?
Have you tried rebooting?
Supergper 06-14-2003, 10:22 PM doesn't it take batteries...have you checked them...my mouse is a logitech cordless and it does the same thing when the batteries get low...

Ya,.......I rebooted a dozen times m still no go.
No batteries in the mouse, it's not cordless.
Even as I type the letters appear slightly later than when I type each key... there is a glitch or hang time there,
Annoying as hell.................................
LordRatner 06-14-2003, 11:14 PM if you have the mouse software, uninstall it and use the default windows stuff
rockinredneck 06-15-2003, 12:14 AM hit the ol' ctrl, alt, del click the processes tab and count up how many you have running.
this is just a stab in the dark because i've never come across this problem before but I think you may be running so low on memory that even your mouse is lagging...
Normally it's not the mouse, it's the video. IE windows are slow to draw, so is everything else, like highlighting etc

I had someone else tell me that and it makes sense, how would one go about fixing that?
pull the card?... New card or reload XP?
rockinredneck 06-15-2003, 10:04 AM since you have a manufactured PC I'm assuming that video is integrated into the board but integrated peripherals can easily be disabled in the CMOS setup; but as a drawback to having integrated video you probably dont have and AGP slot. There are PCI video solutions they arent as fast as AGP cards but that really wont make a difference unless you're a gamer.
SnowScoutII 06-15-2003, 10:18 AM I had a similar probemn. After a little while you might notice it wont track right. I tried changeing the slots for the mouse (USB and regular hookup) But to no avail. The problemnmight be where the cord actually connects into the mouse slot. Its a great Microsoft Fawkup, The Connectors on these mice are always being pulled inside the mouse when you move it. My great soluation was to unplug it Grab it by the end, and swing that fawker over my head onto the ground so it splits into a thousand pieces.;) Then I went a bought a new one. Works fine now.

Sounds like you have something eating up CPU - especially after the comment about your words appearing slowly on the screen.
Hit CTRL-ALT-DELETE and then Select Task Manager
Go to the processes tab and see if anything is using a lot of CPU usage. I would suspect McAfee or some other program.
Also, get SpyBot or AdAware and search your machine for spyware.
Boot into Safe Mode and see if it still does it.
Started coincidentally after I load Spy Sweeper on my PC.
I used Ad a ware prior to that..
I'll try your suggestion...imagine waiting for each letter to show on the screen as you type...frustrating

I prefer Spybot myself.
Well, first question in troubleshooting is when did it start ;) If the only change was installing software, unistall it and go from there.
Entropy 06-15-2003, 10:58 AM Also, just for shits and giggles - shoot over to Housecall.antivirus.com and let it run a scan.
rockinredneck 06-15-2003, 12:11 PM you might go by www.PCpitstop.com and let them scan... they'll go thru and run some tests that might give you some hints to getting your system performing better.
