MT/Rs and Krawlers are both theoretically available in a 39.5

Why on earth would you want a radial that large unles you're competeing in crawling comps and are sponsored?

It's all about the swampers. :D

From what the guys at BF Goodrich have told me, the 39.5 Krawlers are not available to the public. Comp only. Pretty lame I think.

The BFGs are comp only, and it'll take a lot of leg-work to run down a set of 40" MT/Rs. WHY?

Swampers are better, everywhere you look, and far [b]FAR[b/] cheaper than a $350 40" radial that doesn't work so hot if the terrain is wet.

You can also check out the Michelin military zl's xml's etc. they come in some big sizes and are radials. And from what I have heard they last a long time, and balance well. You might have to get a set of 16 inch rims though, but it might be worth it.

Hmmm,
Not in my opinion. Got anything to back it other than your personal opinion?

There expensive but the 38x15.50 TSL radials are pretty sweet tires.

If you need something that will ride/balance better, why not spend the $800 minimum you'll spend on these tires, on a tiny little car? It's the best mod I've made on my rig. It makes my Toy get 39.5 MPG last time I did the actual mileage. :)

the radials are the way to go, wait and find a set of MTR's or BFG's, they will work a lot better on the road

I would go with the Swampers. At $350, you will be crying if you tear up a sidewall on the trail. The Swampers are not only tougher in the sidewalls, but cheaper as well.
The big radials are great for competition. where the drivers generally don't pay full price for tires, and they are not far away from tech support.

I also agree that you should put your tire money towards a cheapo car.

i had 35 swampers, no i have 35 MTR's and for up in the northwest, the MTR's are the way to go, in the snow the bias swampers would not go at all, even with 3 PSI, the MTR's work great, except in the mud, that is the ONLY place the swampers worked better, they are worht the extra money to get them, and if you are worried about cutting side walls, buy them at a tire store and get a warenty.
