So, I got directions to get out there. Unloaded, and found the trail. I passed several signs that say stay on the road, and NO offroading. But I figured those signs were for the trail leading to Rodrigues Canyon... Because I have heard so much talk about it.

Nope, soon as we went off the trail...about 100 yards, the RANGER took our ID's and ticketed us for going off the beaten path??? Happy Fathers Day. The two of us were out there with our wife and kids. We were looking for an easy place to wheel, and hang out for the day.

Have you guys heard of this before???

We explained to the Ranger that we had never been there before, and even showed him a copy of the instructions. And pleaded with him that we had no malous intention. It was fathers day after all, and we were with our families...also, the guy I went with is in the military....that didn't seem to help either. Looks like we have a court date August 11th in El Cajon for it!!!

I guess I just don't get it.

It's in Anza Borrego Desert State Park and if you get off what
the rangers consider the "road" they're generally real dick heads.

That's fawked. a similiar thing happened to me. Look up the law you violated and you might be able to get out of the ticket if you take pictures of the area and it looks like a road. If there was a gate at the start of the road you can almost definatley get out of it. I would definatley fight it just go into court plead not guilty and when they ask you to set a court date set it as far off as you can then when you have to go in for it the ranger probably won't remember you. Good luck i know how much these situation suck
The ranger was obvioulsy just being a dickhead
