I know 20 bucks is not that much money but why go and ruin a good thing? It sure was nice when everyone could upload their pics for free. I love this website and really enjoy all the good information but the pop ups drive me crazy. I really think it's just the principle of the matter. you know?

I don't really care for the pop-ups much, but I'll deal with them. As for uploads, 99% of ISPs provide you with webspace. You can ftp your files there and then just link 'em.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, i never go in the general section. I just gladly made my contribution, would have done it long ago. Belly up folks, u get what u pay for, Lance has provided us a top notch home away from home here. Nothing like it at ANY COST anywhere on Al Gore's internet! It's not cool to be last.

Thanks Lance,

Hey Guys,

For everyone that thinks that Lance is selling out... try to pay for the amount of web space that Pirate4x4 takes up with the amount of traffic it genarates. That number can be staggering. Plus, I'm sure everyone has at least made a deal for one part on the for sale board saving you a ton. I know I've saved A LOT of money. You also get what you pay for. How many have a Sam's or Costco membership here??? Lance, you have my money to help keep things running ( I bet he'll become a rich man now) yeah right :D Keep up the great work keeping this the best site on the net for the hardcore!!!

As one sharp POR member noted "I've saved at least 20 bucks by logging on to POR" man that says it all, freedom isn't free and neither is the web.

Yeah, I paid to support the board. Our section alone is worth more than $20/year to me. The only annoying thing is that I still get some pop-ups and banners. But, like I said, I didn't pay to get rid of the ads. Happy Cruisin' everyone.

Come awn Dudes, ante up. If a cheap bastard like me can chip in $20 then all you guys and gals that can sink $10,000+ into a rig that you can't even drive to the 7-11 for a six-pack should hang your heads in shame. In stead of the paying members getting a star, how about all the non payers get a :rainbow: by their name.

Just my $20 worth. Dan:smokin:

I'm not entirely sold on the $20 membership for the site....the "you get what you pay for" theory just never flys well with me. If that were the case, ih8mud.com would also be a charging site, as would 100's of other great tech resources, like mortec.com. Personally, I've saved that same $20 from information gleaned from dozens of other sites, and none of them are charging me.

I made a couple adjustments to my web browser and no longer have to deal with popups on this site. (selective security) I don't care if my "personal avatar" is located under my name. The "extreme" star means nothing to me...

IMO, the "membership" fee creates a club, something the Pirate of the Rubicon have fought OVER and OVER on this board, trying to separate the PBB from POR. This is going to confuse things just that much more. I think a different approach regarding supporting the BB may have been a better direction.

All that being said, I'm not going to argue that the PBB is a great deal of work and that the upkeep of the programming and the hardware to run this site can get quite expensive...it's for that reason alone that I may eventually toss my $20 in to the ring.

Well after getting to know Lance in person and finding out the politics and costs associated with running the PBB, I am very happy to see that he has found a way to be compensated for his time.

THe way I see it, Lance does the majority of the work to keep the board up and running and the Pirate Club gets all the procedes.

This allows Lance to be compensated and when the person that is doing the work is happy and paid for their work, then they will provide a better product.

My 2 pesos on the subject!

I agree with all that you said and I am in no way down-playing all of the other great sites. Hell, I'd probably give you and the LCML $20 each if I was asked and it was needed to help keep it going. That would be my limit though, all the little things add up for poor, starving college students.

Come awn guys, if I see the banner and pop-ups he gets paid. If you send money he gets paid. Either way there is cash flow. Those banners and pop-ups aren't there just to goad us into paying, they are a source of income. Paying to not see the banners and pop-ups just takes the place of advertising money for those of us who are nice enough to see the banners and pop-ups.

I will continue to do my part and receive the pop-ups so that advertisers continue to spend their money here.

I see he put a "sticky" on top of our board now.
