: Full Floater Dana 44 rear?

I did a search on the forum, but couldn't find what I was looking for.

Was there ever a production Dana 44 rear full floater, and if so, what were they found under?

Also, are the hub units (the part which connects to the rotor and houses the bearings) the SAME as the front 44 hub unit? Same thing with the spindles and bearings.

If I can find a vehicle that has this axle, I can work my idea from there.

Thanks

Never heard of a factory FF D44, but it wouldn't be too hard
to fab one up...

The only custom parts would be some weld-on flanges for mounting the spindles to, on each end, and the axle shafts. Moser could do the shafts pretty cheap, and the flanges are a relatively simple job on a lathe.

You could use front spindles, hubs, rotors, and brakes. Ford internal would be my choice, with GM calipers & brackets.

Instead of using locking hubs, you could use the full-time one-piece drive gears inside the hubs instead. Much stronger.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking.....

Also, warn sells a FF kit for dana 44s under SWB Jeeps, and so I am trying to find out if those spindles will take a regular 44 front hub.

I have solid drivers from a Grand Wag I would be using, so that isn't a problem

So, if those spindles are usable, all I would need from Warn would be their spindle, and then the rest is junkyard stuff.

Cromoly axles with cold rolled splines otta do it :D

i've seen a couple of them, they were in OLD and i do mean old trucks. probably a late 60's model 1/2 or 3/4 ton chevy i think it was, the 44 likely was a 10 spline model or whatever they were back when having alot of splines wasn't a keen idea yet. ask gearman i bet he knows.

Here's a writeup on doing a d41. Should be about the same.
