lsloth 06-16-2003, 12:15 PM What are the spec on it?
Nitrousoxide 06-16-2003, 12:24 PM This truck used to have a 22r from the factory. Yanked it out and dropped the diesel in. Just wanted something different. It's pretty weak. 1L 2.2 engine out of a two wheel drive toy diesel. Basically made one truck out of two. Needs to be regeared big time. Still has 4.10's with 31's.......fifth is useless. A/C works though........almost makes up for it! Just looking for some feedback from anyone nice enough to give any. THANKS!
dreamerof1 06-16-2003, 12:26 PM Welcome newbie. It's nice to see another diesel on the board. I gotta say that your's looks a lot better than my 84 right now. Is it factory or a conversion?
]WHERE DID YOU GET THOSE DECALS!?!?!?!?!? Me like!
Edit: DOH!!! we were typing at the same time. If you're interested in more power for that thing I'm in the process of bringing over a container of 2L-T's from NZ...or if you need any misc. parts for it let me know and I'll see what I can do for ya.
What was the process like in Ga. for reregistering as a diesel? I'm trying to gather info on the swap for different states' emission laws.

Nitrousoxide 06-16-2003, 12:34 PM Dreamer, it's a conversion. You can't find factory ones hardley ever. So I decide to build one. A friend of mine is in the sign business. He made them similar to the fatory two wheel drive emblems off an 83 2WD diesel. Do you have pics. of your truck?????
DBrown2 06-16-2003, 12:40 PM Sweet Deal, lets see pics of engine, and what all mods did you do for the swap. My friend is wanting to do the same for his 94, but he has the 2.4 I think. There was two diesel motors his is the bigger.:D What trans and case are you running.

Only pics I have are from earlier in the build. Since the pic I have installed waggies on the front, hybrid packs in the rear, started prepping for hysteer, the bed's on now, because I need to get my safety inspection done to get it registered, but I have a short bed that will eventually take it's place.
The original 2L is on a stand in the garage waiting to go back in for reg.
Any chance of getting that friend of yours to make a bunch of those decals? Or even just 1 set in white???

Most of the 90-95 Hilux Surfs (4Runners) that come from Japan to the UK have these motors, or the 2LT/E which is a EFI version. they have a lot of guts, Have to push our V6 Runner to beat them at the lights.
You need to watch the cooling system like a hawk, we seem to get a lot of cracked cylinder heads on the import ones. The 1KZ-T (3.0 liter) that replaced it is a nice motor as well.

Thanks for the info Tony. I don't have the time to now, but can I PM you with a bunch of questions later. I'm still pretty new at this, but have soaked up about as much knowledge as I can find about them around here.
Thanks,
Drew

Sure, There are 4-5 guys around town I regually chat with who have 2.4 and 3.0 liter motors in Hilux Surfs. Have done a bit work on some of them.
Also the Ozzie guys that come here have a lot of experance with these motors, give Ruff, Nick or Guts a call, or visit their BB....
