: JD2 Model 3 set-up instructions
1GreatTJ 06-17-2003, 05:28 PM Ordered a model 3 from JD2 last week, and when I took it out of the box today there were no instructions:mad:. My question is, do I need the instructions to put this thing together correctly, or can I just look at the pic on their site and wing it. I have never even seen a bender before this so I'm not sure what goes where. I guess I can call JD2 tomorrow and have them fax over some instructions but I wanted to put it together tonight. One last thing, does the bender come supplied with the follower or does it come with the die? I didn't have the funds for a die yet so I still need to order that.
Thanks
Jaromy
nasvik 06-17-2003, 05:32 PM Without a die or a stand it won't really be assembled anyway. Call them tomorrow and have them fax the instructions.
I too was confused when I opened the box - had only seen pictures and none of those pieces made any sense. :D
Have fun building "1GreatTJ". :flipoff2:
Paul
1GreatTJ 06-17-2003, 05:44 PM nasvik,
Thanks for reminding me that my BB name is :rainbow:, but I chose that a long time ago before I knew what :rainbow: was. And now I don't know how to change it.
nasvik 06-17-2003, 05:45 PM No problem! :beer::D

This begs the question: how smart are you? Like we know! :flipoff2:
I did mine without the directions. Because like you, I didn't get any!
Here's mine. Maybe this will help you. ;) Make sure to put the handle part on the right way. A few have got it wrong and it won't bend for shit on wrong. The follower comes with the die, since they are sized for the tubing like the die is. :D
Go here: http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/bendin_tube/index.html while you are waiting for your die and read, read, and re-read. Print it out and put it next to the crapper. You will thank me later. And thank Rob. He's DA MAN!

I don't know if I'm smart or not when it comes to the bender, but I have read "Bending 101" lots of times and I have seached just about every post available that deals with bending. It's amazing what you can find out there with the seach button:eek:
DCS--
Thanks, that's the info I was looking for
Later
Jaromy
Supergper 06-17-2003, 09:20 PM well the instructions suck anyways...the best thing I found to do for mine was to print out a picture and put it together like the picture was...once you start to match up parts everything will start to look familiar...
xextr3m3 06-17-2003, 10:11 PM I hate to admit this, But i had my Girlfriend help me:p
oh and the instructions and pictures in the instructions suck
TNToy 06-17-2003, 10:34 PM Yup. It was even more fun putting together a model 3 when all the pictures in the instructions were for the MANUAL setup. I got screwed with this hyrdo system, and it was all funky.
I really wanted to row the bender until my arms went numb, too. Instead I just stand on a pedal? What's up with that? :flipoff2:
Thanks for the tool loan, Dan

I did 2 90* bends and then ordered hydro parts. No fawking way I would use one w/o hydro.
1GreatTJ 06-18-2003, 07:18 AM I put it together last night. I guess I can't do anything without a die:rolleyes: . I will be bending manual until I have the funds to go Hydraulic.

Someone needing info on how many notches you can do in one pull of the handle. They had the handle part on backwords. I was marking and showing them how far I get. Here's the second pic to show how far one pull on the handle get you.

I have the handle and stand from here: http://www.vansantent.com/model_3_bender.htm
And unless I was bending cages all day long I would not mess with the hydro. I can bend 1.75 120 wall HREW with one hand.
IMHO hydro is for professionals or weak little sissy's. :flipoff2: Buy a notcher and more dies with the $$$ you save.

Exactly. No hydro here.
I made my own stand, and realized that I forgot to buy stuff for the handle. I found a piece of 2" round .120 about 2 1/2 feet long, pinched one end in a vice, and it slips over the handle just right. Not much leverage, but I have no problem bending. Don't have room for a big handle anyways. Here's what my setup looks like. Not a very big area. Just enough room to bend that bigger piece. On the first bend, right at 90 deg. it hit the wall:eek: Guess I have to be carefull what I bend...

I feel the same way, but right now I am renting and my house won't be finished until Sept. I tried to get the builder to speed up the process on the house, but he didn't like that.

What does that have to do with getting hydro?

I mean I don't realy need hydro but I don't have anywhere to mount the bender until I move into my new house. I don't want to drill holes into a garage floor of a house that is not mine.

You sound jealous:flipoff2: I got hydro and lots of dies. Although it does suck drinking some yellow beer while leaning on the valve:flipoff2:

I really wouldn't worry about it. A little cement patch and they won't even know. I rent a 20x40 shop and this is what I did.

I thought about just doing it, but I already wired my garage for 220 for my MM175 that they don't know about. I don't want to push it:D

I used a 4' piece of 1x2x.120 wall rect tubing, and it slips on the handle perfectly.

Dude, in your pic, dont you have the bender mounted backwards? Dont you want the bender mounted going over your stand not further to the left?
look at the first pic...That one had the bender mounted so it hangs over the stand not to the side...
I have a pro tools 105 not a JD2 but I think you can flip yours so you dont put so much leverage on your stand..
My stand will be done tonight...maby... just gotta drill the remaining bolt holes...

Yah, it's backwards. I had it on the other way, but it was a brain fart on my part where I mounted it. I could swing an 8 foot stick about 10 degrees before it hit the wall on the right:rolleyes:
Oh well. I just need a bigger shop...
And the Total Gym belongs to the parents. They buy all the new exercise crap, use it once, and store it where I gotta work.
Erich, I know the 1x2 fits. I'm just too lazy to go get some when I have that 2" round already there:D Maybe when I have to bend some .188
Slagburn 06-18-2003, 06:36 PM Floor bolts suck. Model 4, push a button, yippee! It's also nice to just turn the damn thing around so the tubing doesn't hit walls, parked cars, etc
OK I'll quit whining now :flipoff2:
