Well I'm heading up with some friends for a week of camping and wheeling on the con next week. We are parking our trailers in Truckee and going to drive to the trail head. None of us like to run windshields. Anyways are we begging for tickets? I know its about an hour drive with no windshied...no biggie, I'll just wear sunglasses. I don't care, but are the cops going to? Anyone who can give me a little insight into the cop's attitude towards this or laws it would be appreciated. Thanks

Cover with Saran Wrap they will never know the difference.:p

I don't think it's a good idea. Why not park your trailer at the turnout/sweet air up spot they made???? I assume your going in the Tahoe side since your leaving the rigs in Truckee?

I know two CHP based out of Truckee and as cool as they are they'll pull you over if they see you.

RCKRATZ has the right idea - leave the rigs in the parking lot at trailhead. Not sure how safe it is though...

Well we are staying with a friend in Truckee. I am not trailering so I need to ditch my windshield when I have a chance. So basically I am asking for a ticket huh. Damn. I hate wheeling whith a windshield.

I drove an hour plus up the freeway with no windshield before, acutally it was four times LOL... anyway it wasn't the smartest thing in the world. I guess what could be argued is what is an "adequate windshield" ? I was wearing my motorcycle goggles... is that adequate :D

anyways here it is straight from the horses mouth: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/vc/tocd12c4.htm

While I don't pretend to be an expert on Cali laws, typically as long as you have proper eye protection, then everythings all good.

At least that's the case here in WA.

I also hate to wheel with a windshield, been known to ditch them in the bushes before the trailhead in the past.:D

The question is:
Is it just a fix-it ticket (which I beleive it is)? If so, who cares. You take a chance on maybe getting a ticket, then go do the 'con and come back. Put your windshield back on and have any cop sign off the ticket. Mail the signed off ticket with a whopping $10.00 fee, and you're done.
Now if it's not just a fix-it ticket...that's a whole other story.

I wouldn't think it would be just a fixit ticket. Having my tires stick way the hell out is just a fixit ticket so I don't really care. I would immagine they would either make you put it back on or they would have you towed. Anyways a friend picked up a sheet of plexiglass for 75 bucks. It will make 2 winshields so I think I got it covered.

I have seen many people do the same thing and proper eye protection such as goggles would be considered ok.

I live in Truckee and you will get ticketed. Especially on your tires. The tires will catch the CHP's attention and pull you over then he will ticket you for the windshield. Got pulled over twice in 3 days for my tires. Mine aren't even that bad. I was on my way to the Rubicon the second time he pulled me over and I said "you just pulled me over 2 days ago" he said " Didn't recognize you, I patrol Hwy 89/28 because of all the people going to the Rubicon over the weekend".
Mine isn't even that bad compared to a lot of rigs.
