:rolleyes:Before you start in on the lil newbie, YES I already tried using 'search'!:flipoff2: Sooo, the call goes out to those of age and wisdom. I have a FSJ and would like to get some flex'n happenin' down under. I have seen several suspension mods from mild to wild. The coils are nice but also rather spendy! Is there anybody out there who has done quality home grown suspension on this kind of BIG toy? My FSJ is a '76 Cherokee 2 door with 4" of body lift(fabbed towers, not pucks!) Any avenues you have tried and had success with?... 1/4 elliptics... (triangulated)4 link... free lift springs... Everybody under the sun does stuff for the lil guy but if you want something for the BIG toys you gotta do it yerself. But Hey! I prefer it that way, and it is what you build not what ya buy! So let the thread run wild with your knowledge! A BIG THANX and a BIG  for ya! Tigger4X :jeep:

Newbie mistake... I have already done an SOA front and rear. And I eliminated the 4" blocks by inverting the rear shackle mount. But I want more!:crybaby2:

spring over in the front would be your best bet, will work well with your springs and width. I have a freind with wagoneer frame and CJ-8 body and the stock springs flex really well, almost as good as a freinds spring over CJ. It really just needs longer shackles and spring over to flex like crazy

There's a group of guys doing stuff to big Jeeps over at theIFSJA (http://www.ifsja.org/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi). You may want to check it out.

You should be able to fit plenty of tire (38s) with some trimming, 4" springs, and a SOA. What are you trying to fit?

btw - Are you saying that you already did a 1/4 elliptical, or want to do one?

fawk suspension mods. think "fender" mods! :D

SOAs are good on SJs, actually. the springs are nice an soft.

personally, i'm cutting my fenders just cuz i don't wanna increase the CG too much.

rusty's has a 6" and 4" lift, rancho has a 4", and a few other companies have lifts as well.

just finishing a soa on my j10, replaced the stock 5 leaf pack with a 7 leaf waggy pack and a full length add a leaf, Rusty,s offroad XJ rear greasable lift shackles in the front (identical to SJ front and rear shackles), the rear has a YJ shackle hanger welded to the bottom of the existing shackle hangers and a YJ LIft boomerang shackle, fabbed front spring hangers welded to the bottom of the existing hangers, and a full length add a leaf. This setup was pretty simple, and judging by static compression of the springs (forklift), this flexes like mad!!

That sounds very interesting... do you have any pics for that conversion.. I have a 1979 4-door cherokee...I would love to do something like that on it...

We just did a lift on a FSJ. We used the stock springs up front and did a SOA. In the rear, we moved the front mount back and used Ford Ranger leafs. The thing works great. We did have to use some lift block on the back. We made our own and welded them to the 60. The thing rides great and has lots of flex. Now if we could just get the tranny to work.:(

I have a 79 chief. I used 3" Rough Country Front springs. They flex great. I ground down the leaf clips so that they will seperate when drooping. SOA is in the works right now. Also in the works is a shackle reversal up front with 2" longer shackles for more travel.Use the greasable aftermarket shackle for a XJ cherokee. The rear that I am doing right now is a little more involved. I am moving the rear springs so that they are under the frame rails. To do this I am boxing the rear of the frame and welding on front spring hangers to the frame and going with a 3/4 elliptical setup. The flares have been removed allready. This setup will allow for full flex while using 38-40" TSL's. I did this same setup on a friends FSJ and it flexs like a mother.:usa:

Start with a chevy d60/ 14 bolt. Build spring/ shackle mounts under the frame to fit, add hi-clearance crossover steering. You need a stout drivetrain to wheel a Jeep that big with 38-40" tires. What t-case you runnin with? If you have QT, id look for a chevy 205/ 400 for a simple swap with factory parts. If your not a fan of AMC engines, a 454 would be nice too.
