I watched it (on CBS). Fairly interesting and informative. I liked better because it didn't go into the war, just his ascension into the dictatorship.

people hate to recognize genius when they see it...even when that genius was used in psychotic ways.

I know guys sitting in the looney bin that are there because they were psychotic.....and completely moronic...that is why they are in there.

Hitler was a genius with a psychotic streak...that is the difference. He enlisted the help of other psychos that took hsi vision of a perfect society to the edge of reason and pushed it into genocidal delusions.

Anyone that watches the history channel a lot knows of how close Germany came to kicking the world's ass....and how close japan came to kicking the world's ass....japan has been trying it for centuries!!!

We got lucky because Good always has to triumph over evil.....right:flipoff2: :flipoff2:

I was talking with a german friend the other day and he told me some interesting facts about the war. Apparently germany had developed a jet fighter during the early 40s but shelved the production in order to develop a heavy bomber that was eventually found to b unfeasable, thus tying up resources for years. When the jet finally was produced in limited numbers at the end of the war it was able to outfly anything the allies could produce. Germany may well have turned the tide of the war if this error had not been made.
He and I agreed that under the circumstances they would not have won but but ,more likely would have lost Berlin to the atomic bomb rather than losing to conventional forces.
Many of the guys on the A bomb project were german by the way...most of these were jewish. if Hitler had not targeted the jews he may well have won the war and we might be speaking german today.

here's the history of WW2 german jet aircraft.

ww2 german jet aircraft (http://www.geocities.com/pzkfw5/WW2-Jet-Rocket-AC.html)

im assuming your friend was speaking of the ME-262, the most famous of that bunch. the one that needed a complete engine overhaul after each flight..

and regardless of whether or not hitler targeted jews, we would never be "speaking german". that's absurd.

he was a maniac, and although he was a genius, he would never have come to that kind of power in the world. face it, there were just too many of us and not enough krauts :)

Yes, the ME262 was the reference. I was using the phrase (speaking German) as only a manner of speaking. No one could have easily predicted the outcome. My point simply being that many of the top physicists and scientists were German Jews who ended up working for the Allies rather than their own country that sought to wipe them out(Oppenhemer being the best known). I have no doubt that if The Germans had been winning the war in 1945 that the Atomic bomb would have been used on them rather than (or in addition to) the Japanese.

In the end, nobody has been able to dominate even a large part of the world for a lengthy period of time....all things evil have to crash sooner or later...world government will never be about fear and control...

I didn't see the program, but I'm fairly well-versed on Hitler History, you might say.

Hitler was NOT a genius, although he did exhibit exceptional ability in certain areas. Public speaking being the most notable.

His ability to form political alliances was weak, he ended up with some inept fat guy (Goering), and an inept lunatic (Hess.) Stemming from that was a pathetic ability to judge character and ability. Couple that with an, at best, amateurish grasp of contemporary warfare, and a complete disengagement from reality, and you have a never ending series of idiotic military and diplomatic decisions that led to WWII and Germany's subsequent defeat.

What Hitler did was take advantage of circumstance. The Treaty of Versailles, Britain and France's pathetic handling of reparations, blockade against civilians in WWI, and the circumstance of many Jews holding Wiemar Republic paper during runaway inflation being just a few examples.

Hitler was in the right place at the right time, and took advantage of a weak system. The real tragedy of the Holocaust and WWII is that it never had to happen, especially not in Germany. France would have been the more likely candidate for an anti-Semetic Fascist dictatorship IMO.
