Wadda ya think???? Still planning the SAS... thinking 1 ton chev axles, but cant decide on the setup. BTW I'm Supatroopa from the 'Wire....:trooper:

89 Trooper 4 door if it matters; I want to run at least 37"s, I wheel tight off-camber rocky trails, planning on running SBC w/465/208?/300 twin stick...

So should I 4-link it or stick with leafs???

Kinda hard question to answer for ya. How much work do you wanna put into it? have much knowledge with link setups? what kind of budget?

A *properly* designed link setup can offer you lots more flex but from a design stand point leafs are way more forgiving.

petersens 4wheel offroad has had articles on this the last two months. last month it was a basic intro and this month has more detailed shit. check it out.

it'll definately be more expensive and time consuming to do a 4 link, but if you do it right, itll be raw.

but on the other hand, never underestimate a real good scienced-out leaf setup

4-link. With a SAS? You're gonna have a hard time fitting 4 links up front. Maybe if you go sky-high, but it'll be tight. 5-link would fit better.

Radius arms are an option too (but I'm biased) :D

i really thought he was asking about the rear

so 4 link rear

i would say 3 link (i guess radius arms count in that catagory) w/ coils or coil overs up front

couldn't he do a 4-link like this: 2 lower parallel links, one shorter upper link (still parallel to the lowers) and a panhard? the upper link doesn't have to be perfectly centered to still get the same droop and compression on both sides. the panhard will keep the steering situation normal. the lower links giude the movement of the axle, the upper one is to keep the pinion from pointing funny directions. that upper one can go to the inside of a frame rail, while the lowers go to the underside or outside. never seen the underside of a Trooper, but i figure there's gotta be at least a little bit of room.

Thats the kind of 4 link I was thinking... the only way I'd use radius arms is if I did wristed style, a la EB. I like the 4 link and coilover idea mainly because its easier to keep the truck low(ish) and still flex nicely, and hell, they just look fawkin cool:flipoff2: I think its time to start the 4 link research now...;) BTW I get Petersen's and thats kinda what really kicked my ass in gear :D

I went the coil route. I have been messing with it for almost 8 months now. I just got the thing re designed and what not, but it should be a little bit flexier. IMHO leafs can be made to flex plenty good for what we do and are a lot less of a head ache, but the coils do make for a little smoother ride.
