If anyone can help me with measurements or pics would really help, I want to cut my fender pretty good. I am putting on the 5.5'' RE ex-duty and the coil spacers and shackles. about 8'' of lift. I plan on running 33 or 35 mtr's.

theres no way youll fit 35s go with 33s possibly 32s

if you want 35s youll need like 10 inches of lift

youre just plain crazy

we have not completely flexed his out(I think he wants to keep it pretty) but I want to have the most amount of flex I can, and it looks really good, my friends is kind of lame, he has stock axles and no lockers.

forget the spacers and shackles.

Just do the 5.5 lift and run 35's

Just cut the hell out of the fenders.
I mean if you are not affraid to cut then why add extra lift when it will not be needed.

i just obtained a 88XJ...i already have my trail ride...the YJ...

i found a cheap set of 32" BFG ATs....do you think i can cut the fenders out a ton and throw TJ flares on and fit the 32s...i am not worried about flex...i wont wheel this thing...the tires that are on it are bad, and just happened to find these for 85 for all 4...thought it would be sweet? think i can do it?

32s, no lift, chopped fenders with TJ flares...on a 2 door XJ

Just trim like he did for the bushwacker flares. Plenty of room for 35's at 5-6" lift. ;)

Years ago I put a set of my 32-1150s on a friends no lift cherokee no trimming on stock 15X7 in think 5.5in BS rims, we drove it around the block and it worked, when we hit the bump into the drive way it rubbed...

Back spacing on the rim may be the pass fail. With stock rims the tire will hit the control arms when turning tight. and in the rear you tire will be really close to the leafs... WIth less BS rims your gonna have troubel with it hitting the fenders so more trimming.

The front is no problem triming for no lift, the rear you may need to trim beyond the pinch seam?

here is borton's beeter cherokee on 33s and no lift, trimmed.

INFAMOUSBUTCHER

is it ok to trim along where the top of the flair is. the rear is pretty close to the door.

I know it's a ZJ, but this is what I trimmed to fully clear 32's with a BB and disco'd swaybar. Stock length bumpstops and lots of smacks with a sledge on the inner fenderwell.

From what I've seen of XJ's, the construction of the front fenders is kinda similar. I'd be careful about cutting through some sort of pinch weld though without re-welding it.

This is my brothers cherokee on 35's with 6", and Carolina Rock Shop (www.carolinarockshop.com) long arms:

http://carolinarockshop.com/art/mac%20long%20arm/ramptest9.JPG

The fenders are now trimed so it looks alot better. Some people say you need an 8" lift to run 35's on a cherokee but i think it is overkill. 8 inches is just too top heavy for me and unless your running 38's IMO it is too much lift.

what tool works the best for trimming

NCxj
06-24-2003, 07:27 PM
Is this form over function or the other way around 1st off. If your going for function. Start trimmin away (you can make it look good if you use the right tools and time).

IMHO...figure out what tire you wanna run. Then figure out what axles you need to run those. Then base your lift off that.

A 4 INCH ANGLE GRINDER AND A JIG SAW WORKS THE BEST FOR ME

A Good Jig-saw (DeWalt or something in that range) and a die grinder will do the job good. But make sure you have a quality jig-saw because it will make a WHOLE LOT of difference!;)
