i did a lot of lookin around about this and the HD dana 44 came on f250s in 76-77.5. the thing is a monster. i bought it thinking it was a 60 because the housingand hubs are so large. should i just roll the thing in a ditch or does it have value to anyone? can i put those outer 297 axles in my 76 EB? thanks

Is it a leaf sprung 8lug with dual piston calipers? Open knuckle or closed High pinion or not?

Reason I ask is that is what Im running under my rig and I love it, The Jeep guys would love to get there hands on it, and Id highly suggest that axle to S10 owners going straight axle and fullwidth. Mine is out of a 78 its open knuckle HP and all that good stuff.

I got mine out of a running truck I paid 200 bucks for :flipoff2:

I tend to keep all my stuff for parts, but isn't that a closed knuckle? I forget if they switched over by '76. Doesn't seem like people have much call for the closed knuckle 44s but you'd be able to sell it if it was open.

nope you have a run of the mill 1976 dana HD44

1976-1977.5 housing is a standard cut ring&pinion low pinion design, open knuckle design, very large hubs, its spindles are restricted to the that hub design on fords how ever the rotors and caliper brackets and calipers work from 1976-1979 dana 44 8 bolt wheel

its outer axle stub is only for the 1976-1977.5 design though

this axle will fit all the back to 1973 it will go back a bit farther but it is a little wider in over all width and it will go all the way to 79 with out mods but being it is a low pinion design it is less desirable then its cousin 77.5-79 high pinion design but it is far from being a junk front end it is a popular axle for people who want to upgrade their 73-75 3/4 ton trucks to disc brakes with little mods

plus for those who like to argue the rotors will also fit the dana 44 8 lug dana 50 dana 60 srw or drw all the way up to 98

caliper brackets if they are the origanal won't fit the dana 60 the center hole is to small but the dana 60 will fit it

I will buy it if you are plannig on selling it. We are doing a axle swap in a buddy's rig, and need that axle.
