I am looking at buying the whole truck just for the motor and wiring to replace my carberated 460 that i have now.

does any one know if that is a good year or any little things i should look for. Going to pick it up this evening if everything looks good.

thanks

Heads and intake are overly restrictive. In stock form these motors are dogs for what they are, hardly much better than an EFI 351.

Look at the specs: 240hp and 360ft lbs, for a big block? Come awn!

390 ft/lbs actually.

The torque is right where we need it at, low rpms. My tired 460 turns those tires of mine much better than my fresh 302 ever did.

thats it on the horse power? that sucks

I am running 550 hp in my motor right now. I built it for running sand dunes but now i am mainly rockcrawling with it. I put some rockwells under it last winter and that robbed a lot of power from it. will this stock one turn 44's very well? I really doen't need all the power now for what i am doing but it is nice when i do need it.

I've seen specs anywhere from 360 to 400, dunno who is right. When I drove one it felt like 360, best case :flipoff2: But yes, the torque comes on sooner, peaks at 2200 I believe?

Peak on the EFI motors is at 2K rpm, but, they till drive like dogs compared to my 86(highest output after 83 re-introduction) which is 245 HP@3600, 385 lbs/ft @ 2800, Speed Density EFI's are 240 hp(forget the RPM's) and 365 lbs/ft @ 2K according to my old Motor manuals.

If you want to build power, save yourself a major headache, and get a carburated 460, the EFI's computer, heads and intake are major drawbacks, and, you'll end up running something with carb heads(or aftermarket for a carbed engine) to make any real power anyway.

Put a different set of heads on, toss the peanut ports...

A set of closed chambered heads or even a mid 80's set will make a huge differance.......
