http://i1030.photobucket.com/albums/y367/tg426/IMG_6826.jpg
Upgrades when time and $ permit but for now just trying not to get too stuck. Been on JKowners for about a year but have been making a bunch of friends with other 4x4's. Saw a lifted orange XJ in Holbrook today with a Pirate4x4.com sticker so figured I would log-in here...very cool rig, anyone's???

Virginia based Jeeper.
2006 LJ, DD so it's basically stock. Heard many good things about Pirate 4x4 from friends figured it was time to join so I could search the threads and learn from the wise/sage/insane who have gone before me.

bombman0513 02-11-2011, 04:11 AM I have been surfing this forum for a while, and finally decided to check it out officially. Been on JF for a while, and also member at Rovers only and a few others. I own a 05 Rubicon LJ, and a 04 LR Disco. I wheel them both as much as I can. The LJ was getting to a point where it isnt getting driven on road as much, so I keep the rover pretty much stock for on road driving, with only a 2" lift and 31" tires. The LJ has a 5.5" RK LA lift, intake, exhaust work, and too many mods and toys to list here. I am always tweaking something on it. I am an EOD tech (Explosives Ordnance Disposal (Bomb Squad)) in the Army, have been since 2007. Entered AD in 1996 with a break in service. Reenlisted in 2005. Currently on my 6th deployment, and in Afghanistan as I write this. Should be home in June. Always looking to expand my knowledge of driving, modding, maintaining, and repairing the machines that I love to play with. I will update with some Pics of my toys when I get home..
MAJeepluv 02-11-2011, 02:11 PM Kinda a newbie... New to this forum. Love being in the woods any way possible, especially in the jeep. Or any vehicle for that matter. :)

get Slick 02-16-2011, 07:56 AM New to the board, great site!!!!! Did you know diesel fuel makes an excellent replacement for engine oil? Just be sure to add a lit match to the mixture after you fill the motor to its proper level. If a match cannot be found, you can use a small stick or piece of paper. Just make sure your engine is at operating temperature and running at time of ignition for best results :mad3:
zxrider 02-16-2011, 10:57 AM Hello new here from KY. Just bought a 95 yj with a 4cyl. That has stock suspension. Still havent decided on the lift yet. Thinking of a spring over and 33s. Joined the site hoping to find a few deals on parts and info on what I would need for the steering compnents if I do a spring over. All help will be appreciated.

ZJames 02-20-2011, 07:06 PM New here fom Australia. I have a 96 ZJ grand 4.5inch lift, cage, trussed and locked front and rear, frame plated, custom front and rear bars, tsl's. It needs some work but looking at racing it this year
T-A-I 02-23-2011, 08:57 AM Hello Everyone!
I'm kinda new to this site, but not to the 4wheel life. Yes, for those that catch it, I introduced myself and my Jeep in the 'Yota newbee into thread the other day... Deleted that post, and put it where it/I belong. Simply my mistake. Show me the plank! I'll walk it! Lord knows I've survived far worse!
Below is my current 2005 LJ Rubi. Not going to bore anyone with a list of mods. done to her, although have some big suspension changes coming in near future as time and $$s allow...

wicked93xj 02-23-2011, 09:06 PM Hey, I'm Eric I live in south-eastern CT I've had this 93 XJ for around 3 years and have been building and wheeling it since the day I drove it home. It has some goodies dana 44 rear, custom tom woods driveshaft, rc8 winch, surco safari roof rack with spare tire mount, and 35"s are soon to come.
One of my favorites, pulling a stuck F350 out of 3 feet of snow with my little beast (taken after I pulled him from where he was stuck out onto the road).

brannon502 03-06-2011, 08:34 PM Nebie to Pirate just saying hi. I just recently bought my first Jeep, it's a bone stock '68 CJ6. For the past 20 yrs I've been building muscle cars and hotrods, but i am real stocked about this jeep build. I will be starting a build thread soon.
skiguy2020 03-07-2011, 12:26 AM Hi, I am new to the 4X4 community. I just rebuilt an 86 Jeep J10 and came here for some answers. The truck is running great, rebuilt motor, transmission, and transfer case. But my front axle wont lock because of a vacuum problem and came here for some answers. I also want to do a soa conversion but my front axle has a lip where the u bolt crosses next to the pumpkin which wont allow the leaf springs to sit flush on top.:mad3: A point in the right direction would really help.
Thanks.
Pawhitetail 03-07-2011, 04:40 PM Just got a bastardized 1964 CJ5. Found this site by searching for info on my current steering box which needs to be replaced NOW!!!
Hopefully can get some help on that here and meet some new folks.
MikeOTR 03-07-2011, 10:33 PM New to Pirate. Been wheeling for almost 2 years. Lucky enough to join a group that knows their stuff pretty well. TJ started off as a tow behind the RV. Let's say it's not the same jeep any more.:grinpimp:
Bondo71 03-09-2011, 01:17 AM Just bought my first jeep, 74 CJ5. Looking for helpful info.

swagg720 03-10-2011, 10:16 AM Hi, names kyle. I'm new to Pirate, but i've been wheelin with JT4x4 for the last 4 years in Eastern Connecticut. Just finished my tour in the Navy and am now back home in Texas. Got a 2000 TJ with some stuff. :D
99sporTJ 03-13-2011, 08:40 PM Currently my jeep is on jack stands awaiting some attention to the front axle. It has D44's front and back. ARB and 35 spline chromo's in the rear and a broken stock Rubi up front. Poisen Sypder Rockers, Trail Corners and trail cage. It has 35" Kevlar MT/R's, Currie Antirock and drag link. A 4" Tera Flex SA lift, 1" body lift. Edge Trailjammer chip and throttle body. Header and Magna flow exhaust. Fabtec front bumper with a Warn XD9000i winch and a Warn rear bumper.
I'm new to the whole 4x4 thing. I've been driving a mostly stock '92 tracker (swapped in a16V and 5spd) for several years now as a way to economically get to the mountains in the winter, but have recently decided I want a slightly larger and more comfortable rig. I'm looking at purchasing a 1997-2001 XJ in the near future and figured this would be a good site to figure out what to look for and watch out for prior to purchasing. I have no plans to turn the XJ into a hard-core wheeler (as of yet), but wouldn't mind a mild lift that will allow me to have some fun and go on some of the local trails in the PNW.
Yeepz 03-15-2011, 07:34 PM hey lads, bought myself a 1991 Wrangler, white with a black hard top.
She's in rough shape but on Thursday she gets a new motor and paint.
No rust at all on her and she drives perfectly, no pulling or road walking.
Is there a thread about posting restos or build-ups?
O and nice site!:homer:

RUSTY CJ 05-17-2011, 05:03 AM Rusty CJ here,
I finally pulled away from Chevy and got a 67 CJ5 or rather whats left of it. Got tired of bouncing around the internet and getting no answers so I decided to join a forum to get real world answers. Does anyone have experience or opions of the following fiberglass body manufacturers;
US Body
4WD
Shell Valley
Kentrol
Thanks
Big_Ugly_1982 05-21-2011, 05:18 PM I am obviously new here and I am looking forward to the smart-ass comments I am sure most will leave. I am sure this info will help me a lot in my quest to have the baddest street legal wj without it looking like a pure butcher job
Scary-Animal 05-24-2011, 12:29 PM Hi, I am just getting to the crossroads of either staying legal or going trailer rig with an 87 YJ. I would list everything I have but I am keyboard lazy, and no one really cares.
I am on JF and Reno4x4 as well, but every time I am looking up something tech/mod/fab Google seems to reference this forum the majority of the time. So I paid the $20 to support such a vast amount of knowledge, and wonderful flames in the Hardcore section. Truly a pleasure to read.

My name is Larry I have been fumbling through here for a little while but I need help! I have looked and either can not find or understand why my coils are saging on the rear mostly on the passenger side. I have a 4" fabtech lift with 35" tires warn bumpers winch on the front w/fullsize spare, gas tank skid, rock sliders. I have built my own radius Y arms up front they work great. I have not linked the rear yet. That will happen soon I hope. Are there different springs or rates that would work better for me? I do carry a lot of gear when I wheel and camp. This is also a daily driver, I just went to change my rear shocks and found that I do not have a bump stop on the passenger side. Could I have compressed the coil to far when I had on my 33" tires.
njTJ88 06-16-2011, 11:30 AM Hey guys just got my first wrangler I have always wanted one but was always shy of the money. I got a 98 tj with a rancho suspension lift sitting on 33s, banks headers, flowmaster catback with a turn down, AC delete, K&N intake (but I'm gonna put a Airaid with the spacer in her) and im thinking about getting a jet chip as well. Shes pretty much gonna be my toy and unfortunatly DD :(
Sungard 06-17-2011, 03:43 AM Hi, I m a proud owner of YJ Sahara 95, IL6 4.0 with some little mods:-
Rubicon Express 2.5" standard Lift Kit + 1" Day-star BL & 5/8 MORE Boomerang shackles with poly bushing all around. Got Banks Torque Tubes Exhaust Manifold, flow-master cat-back Throttle body space & AEM Brute Force Induction System. 15" MT wheels with 32x11.50 BFG A/T's.
The rig is again unfortunately my DD and I love doing weekly desert offraoding as well. I plan to put D44 or Ford 8.8 axle swap very soon to run 33"tires thus registering to this site to gain inputs for the swap.:D
Any advise?
BrokeBrewKnow 06-17-2011, 06:45 AM Hey guys my name is Mike I have a 99 Cherokee Sport 4.0 Auto 242 Tcase. Hopefully soon getting a D44 front and D60 or 14bolt rear. Figured it was about time to join a 4x4 forum to see what else I can learn about my 1988 XJ. I've owned/had it since 2002 and done every single modification myself or with my father. It was an ex-government mule so it has the HO 4.0 and comanchee mirrors :D. I love my XJ and it's ability to show people up with just a 4" Rubi Express/Tomken/Rusty's/Skyjacker lift, 4.10 Rubicon gears, Electrac locked rear Dana 44 and an Electric shift OX front Dana 30. Here's some pics for ya'll.

Hey ya'll I just bought my first jeep, 1995 jeep wrangler tj. It is cpmpletely stock, well it has a set of 33x12.50x15 aftermarket rims and a 3" body lift. Has some body damage/cancer. But for 900.00 bucks I aint gonna rant about it. Runs and drives 4cyl/5spd. Yes fifth gear is useless at this point. plans are to lose the 3" bl,change gearing install 4" suspension lift and rub the 33's. possibility of going with a turbo. My dd is a 2002 z71 Silverado and my other toy is a 9 sec Grand National. Any advise on my Jeep would be greatly appreciated.
Unclepsycho 08-21-2011, 05:02 PM Uncle Psycho checking in. (again)
I been here for a while, mostly lurking.
But, recently, I just bought back the '91 Jeep Cherokee from the daughter. She just dont want to have to work on it. she dont do mechanics... her loss....
It has 260,000 miles, and needs a few things.
I plan on a 4" lift and bigger tires. I just gotta search this forum to find out the info I need before I start.
Iaint no stranger to wrenching, I been wrenching my own shit since the '70's. just got done building my '72 Shovelhead, and road it to Oregon and back...
I also have a '71 Jimmy. I met a couple members here, up at Cow mountain a few months back, Jackyl and a couple others.... dang memory, sorry I cant remember names... but they are a great bunch of guys to go wheelin with for sure.
I hope to meet up again and go see Hull Mountain, as well as more of Cow.
I am in the middle of welding in a full roll cage. I am welding direct to the frame, so I have the floor all cut up, seat out etc....
enuff B.S'ing... here's the pictures.

And here's my other favorite 4x4..... it has a post hole auger on the back.... I get paid to go mud running, and off roading in this!!!!!
She's a '77 CJ7 that I bought from a fence company. I have a newer motor to drop in one of these weekends.... the newer motor is a '87 carb motor....last year for carbs I think...

Liv2 hunt & fish 08-23-2011, 01:33 PM Hello All
New to your forum, new to rebuilding Jeeps!! Ive done plenty of builds in my 20's but those were Sprint cars and Late model stocks, this is a whole new world to me.
I have a 74 CJ5 with a I6 232, I picked it up a few years back to use for taking my sons bow hunting with me. This jeep and I have a history as it belonged to a college buddy that I hunted with all the time out of this girl and he was letting her rot in the high country.
Im not doing a complete rebuild at this time as kids take up most of my extra time & funds LOL but I have just recently rebuilt the motor and slowly trying to get her up and running again.

gladiatorlives 09-11-2011, 12:08 PM ill have dumb questions but as you see my gladiator come to life knowing your input made it happen, you yourself will feel more accomplished. More intellectually advanced even.
1969 Gladiator Tornado 230-6 4x4 with transfer i think is dana 18. 7ft box, civilian body. sat 20 years in a forest under a willow 850 kilometers from where it stands now. Paid $700 after hearing it run with no rattles or backfires. Ive drained/flushed everything twice minus the diff and transfer. clutch and brakes need rebuilding.
Tore out seats and ceiling, mice got it bad.
Having the damned-ist time getting the rear drums off. 2 days of heat and hammering and not a budge.
any suggestions?
ive never added a photo but ill try now
gladiatorlives 09-11-2011, 12:11 PM how do i add photos?

r00ster 09-20-2011, 04:39 PM So I f't the dog on this one, my first post was a question and not my intorduction. Let the flames begin I know I got it commin because of it. At least I didnt ask how to do a SOA on a YJ in the hardcore section or put a picture up of my own truck in the diesel rice thread and ask what you fellas thought. :flipoff2: So for now I'll just sit back here in the land of entrapment lovely Clovass NM and play with the search button.
ccorso9 09-20-2011, 10:32 PM New to the site. New owner of an 89 YJ Wrangler. Already started dumping money into it. Need to do a tranny rebuild next, then a flat dash (maybe CJ dash) conversion, then new wheels and tires.
Any help or ideas with the dash would be appreciated. It's a south florida open jeep so I"m getting rid of the defrost, vents and speakers (no radio).
Thanks.

cagearhead 10-13-2011, 07:19 PM Hi my name is Ken. I have a 1984 CJ7 that I just finished a frame off rebuild. Took me 8 years to finish it and there were times I thought I'd never finish it but I did and what a blast it is now to drive. Dropped a LS1 in it and just recently got it past the CARB police so it is now smog and street legal.
I also have a 1973 CJ5 that I've had since day one which needs a little engine work to get it back on the road.

Welcome John! Nice to see you up here! How did the back cement thing work out?
Seabo 10-16-2011, 01:17 PM How do folks!
Been turning wrenches on Jeeps since 1976 when my Dad bought me a 44 Willys MB in 3 trailer loads of parts. Since then I've been through 4 other Jeeps and have recently settled on a '73 CJ 5.
It's under construction for family fun on trails. Will get some pics up soon- after the motor (304 built way overboard for an AMC) is running.
Earn a living teaching high school auto shop, so I am blessed to have the best job on earth- not to mention a brand new million dollar shop.
Been around pirate boards for a few years but never registered. Now that my students and I are building a Toyota truck it seemed like I needed to go legit.

3jeepjoe 10-22-2011, 03:24 PM I've been on Pirate a few times before i registered. Being on Pirate is like watching a hockey game...you ask a question, 14 or 15 guys reply (none agree) :flipoff2:, then they throw off the gloves and start name callin'...well not exactly like hockey, but close.
Dempsey 10-24-2011, 06:16 PM Hey everybody,

bluemymind 11-27-2011, 10:29 PM just another kid with a jeep.
69 cj5
basically tore the jeep down to the frame and restored it to stock.
besides a family roll cage, racing seats with 4 point harness, power steering, tilt ididit column, disks up front, gm dual reservoir master cylinder, new dash and gauges, painless wiring harness and 1in shackle lift with 30in bfg mud terranes.
now i am getting ready to tear it apart again.
thinking im going to ditch the dana 27 in the front and the drum 44s in the back and do dana wide track 44 front and rear with disks all around.
EastBeast 11-29-2011, 11:45 PM Hi.
HOLTZ 11-30-2011, 11:12 AM Holtz is the name... I run a 98 Yota 4Runner and a 02 TJ. I like my rigs dirty and my women even dirtier. :grinpimp:
hansonian 12-01-2011, 06:01 AM Here's my obligatory newb post. I actually registered awhile ago but never got around to posting anything. I currently drive a 2004 Jeep LJ with a 4" SkyJacker SA lift, not my first choice but it was on it when I bought it. After looking at other people's builds I can foresee some upgrades to the Jeep in the near future.
racerjim0 12-02-2011, 08:06 AM I just bought a '97 tj to play with while I'm rebuilding my '87 Blazer. The tj only has 47,000 miles on it and is in great shape----as of today.
92wrongler 12-04-2011, 03:16 PM Have had a few Jeeps an 4x4s over the years, but now stuck with just the one.
It's a '91 YJ 4-banger that I bought 5 years and 100,000 miles ago for $1,200
Had 31's with 1" extended shackles.
Shortly after did a SYE, SOA, 4.88 in D30 with solid axle shafts, 4.86 in Ford 9" rear.
Running 35"Dick Cepek Fun Country II's
:DGREAT off road but tired of "racing":mad3: to keep up with the club on the road, so
'04 Suburban 5.3L, '99 GM NV4500, 3-spd Stak Monster Box:smokin:, and to top it off,
65" Hi-Pinion Dana 60's with Dana 70 outers, 4.57 gears and disc brakes:evil:.
Planning 4" lift Wagoneer springs front and back with 40" tires.
NOW just how do I cram all that under my YJ?
blackwidowkj06 12-04-2011, 05:55 PM Making my presence known on here...
Woman Jeeper who owns a '06 lifted Jeep Liberty that's blacked out and DOES get wheeled. Currently run 31" Trxus MTs on 15" Cragars...
Seeing it's not a Liberty friendly site, guess I'll have to buy a P.O.S. XJ to build to just fit in here.:shaking:
It's either that or do a SFA swap on the Liberty...
Pretty sure there's Liberty haters on here, but I've had my rig over at BlackMountain Offroad Park in Harlan, KY. Did that w/o lockers and my Trxus MTs aired down to 20psi...
I'm a chic who loves Jeeps and would much rather spend $300 on a Jeep part than a $300 on a useless purse. :smokin:
That's pretty much it...and if you hate my rig or think it's crap...too bad, I don't care:flipoff2:

CJ the noisemaker 12-05-2011, 11:17 PM I've been hearing about this forum for a while, but never got around to signing up. I'm CJ, and I own a 1987 Jeep Grand Wagoneer that is about to get a Ford drivetrain.

GunBum 12-06-2011, 09:48 AM I'm a 4x4 newb. Every google search I do brings me here, so I figure what the hell and I sign up.
I'm some sort of useless scientist at work, and I fiddle with guns for fun. My son and I are going to try to ruin a jeep in the near future...
Other than that, i got nothin usefull to add, but intend on making a nuisance of myself anyway. :D

Hello fellow jeepers. Or should I say Arrrg! This is my first jeep and I've had her a year now. Since I bought her I've turned just about every bolt. I've tried to upgrade everything as it breaks but money is tight. Oh well here's a pic of my rig after playing in the mud about 6 months ago. Still havent gotten it all out.
92wrongler 12-14-2011, 08:49 PM Since I started working I've had a 4 wheel drive of one type or another.
Now my ride is a '91 Jeep YJ 4 banger
Here she is after my 1st upgrade of a homemade SOA, TeraFlex Super Short SYE, ALL done with a $100 Harbor Freight wire welder.
http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/pp289/91Wrongler/Work/MY%20JEEP/88841347.jpg
And this is after I installed a '66 F-100 9" axle with 4.86 gears I scored for $100 on Craig's list.

I'll post more pics AFTER my next upgrade. 5.3L, NV4500, Atlas II 5:1, Dana 60s with Dana 70 outers.
Been reading the posts, and SURE appreciate ALL the info you guys have thrown out.

I wheel the piss out of it in anything you put in front of me and have never gotten stuck. Flame on!
Just got my 1st jeep. 94 YJ. Live in Louisiana, so a little mud is a must.

Seabizzy 12-26-2011, 06:15 PM Well, not really, but close enough. After many many 4x4's of all sizes and favors, I have settled into am '73 Jeep CJ 5. It is built for camping and doing some trail work here in NorCal when the water levels allow for access to the trails.
The CJ is sitting on 44's and über low gears in a T-18 trans.
Just added a fire stick antenna for the 2m radio as a Christmas present to the old girl.
billdacat 12-30-2011, 04:49 AM I have stalking PBB for several years now…My wife and I are both into wheeling (04/06 TJ's)… Now that everything is paid off and ready to retire; we will now let the mods begin. :smokin:
I am hoping to go the low COG route for my rigs and keep them as DD’s. I would like to pick up a beater XJ to haul groceries and in-laws.
Currently living in New Jersey (yeah it sucks) but soon moving to southern Utah (yeah).. :flipoff2:
Been stalking PBB for awhile now and figured I'd post an introduction. Names PITT, from Texas but live in NE OK now. Had many 4X4's in different shapes and sizes from a 99 3/4 ton dodge on 38.5 boggers with lockers, an 84 chevy crew cab on 44" groundhawgs with Rockwell axels to a 98 ZJ on 35's, D60front, ford 8.8 rear, ARB bumper, ARB lockers and the newest a 2006 Jeep LJ on 33's with a long list of goodies I wanna put on it. I've been into playing in the dirt and mud since I was a youngin on dirtbikes and quads so it's no surprise I love the money pits that are trail rigs.
1700OW 01-01-2012, 03:11 PM Hello Pirate! I've been creepin on the forum for about a year now and finally got myself a good platform to work on (2004 Jeep TJ X). Thank you for all the help and awesome info. Just reading here, I've probably saved over a few hundred bucks.
Just bought a SYE (installed) and about to buy a transfercase cable shifter from Novak.

Raven361 01-08-2012, 06:38 PM Newb checking in. I've been trolling for a few years and figured, what the heck, so I joined. I've been wheelin for a while now and fab when the money is flowing. Getting ready to swap some axles, tranny, and t-case under my 79' CJ 7, looking for a better (by leaps an bounds) gear ratio (23:1 to a 59:1). Anyhow, thanks Pirate 4x4 for all the past and future info.

TexasDevil 01-13-2012, 07:47 PM Hey new guy here, i am currently stationed in Germany with the Air Force. Me and the wife picked up a 88 XJ 4.0/Auto Red a few weeks ago and i am trying my damnedest to get in through the inspections here. We bought the XJ with a 4.5" RC SCA, trimmed fenders, rear bumper with tire carrier and 34" TSLs. I traded the TSLs for a full set of 33" Gen 1 MTRs and better wheels and started ordering the needed parts to include a 6.5" RC LCA, new brakes all the way around and new exhaust as well as some other minor parts. I learned about this site from a friend and then again while on CherokeeForum. When i get off of work ill add some pictures.

MarcusA 01-22-2012, 03:58 AM good day to all,
im joining you all from the middle east (Qatar) where i am a british expat working in the oil and gas industry. ive managed to get my hands on a free 1995 YJ which (due to the lack of any rocks here) i will hopefully be converting into a dune buggy. i have worked with jeeps at all, i mainly work with motorbikes, small one seater dune buggies and quads but i have a friend here who uses a 1997 XJ for rally's so i have some support.
hoping your vast knowledge will help me and in return i will keep you all up dated on my failures.....and preferably achievements

BamaJeepman21 02-18-2012, 09:22 PM New here. Just signed up today. I haven't done anything to my '98 Wrangler Sahara. Just wheeling it stock for now.
Viggen 02-19-2012, 05:20 AM Ill be starting a Scrambler build in a few months. Quick question about rocker protection: Im used to full length boxed sliders welded to the frame and under the rockers on all of my other trucks but notice that the protection for Jeeps attaches to the tub, not the frame. Is the tub that strong to take shots from rocks?
