I haven't been on lists in over 10 years since the AMC one was getting 60 messages a day in my inbox. I tried to search on this and found some info, but am a little confused as to what to search for. I have a '55 Willys that I want to use as a work truck (need reasonable milage and comfort) so I'm looking to do a frame swap. I would like to stay all jeep but haven't had much luck finding anything close in wheelbase. I don't have any experience with frame work, can weld a semi straight line, and have done very limited body work before. Any suggestions?? I was thinking of a '70's model wagoneer with a 304 and an AOD from a newer one. Any suggestions???

Newbie here saying hi. Just bought my first Jeep, a '90 XJ 4.0L. Looking to do 5+" long-arm, 33's, 231 Doubler, body armor/bumpers, etc. I would like to share what I learn, pick up some pointers and have some fellow jeepers to share my bank account misery with.

Just picked up a 1985 CJ7 Project that was half baked. This rig has a 350ci chevy small block , proflo efi, ax15, d300, pushing 33x12.5 MTs on stock axles. I will be doing an axle swap amoung other things and look forward to tapping into the Brain trust found within these walls.

I am very happy to have found this site and thank you all for the great input and inspiration I have seen here.

I bought a 97 zj 2 1/2 years ago. It has a 5.2 v-8, quadra-trac (I can deal with it for now), 4.5" lift, with 31x10.5x15 dick cepeks FC-2. I'm gettin ready to put 31 BFG A/t on it and play with 32x10.5 out in the woods. I love my jeep. I'm up for any advice on 4wheelin with it. I'm from Alabama by the way. 24 years old. I go to college and workin on my RN degree and work full time, so as yall can see I'm in need of a hobby that I can take anger and frustration out of me at the end of the week. LOL, that don't mean I want to beat up my ZJ. Anyways, I'm lookin forward to all the info yall have and just talkin about 4x4s and wheelin them. Thanks

Here it is

98TJ on 35" MTR tires with clayton long arms, armor all around including a custom cage, 4.56 with OX front and rear, on D44 rear with discs, Teralow 4:1, Warn winch and skids everywhere, etc etc etc

Just bought a 72 Renegad CJ-5 with a fuel injected rebuilt 304. I am planning a build including a stretch of the wheelbase, etc. Should be fun. Now that I need some real help, JU does not cut it.

Hey everyone. My name is James. I live in Hudson, WI but go to college in Houghton, MI (Michigan Technological University).

I have had a Jeep now for 3 years. My first was a 1998 Cherokee with a 3 inch lift and 31's. I now have a 1991 Cherokee with waggy d44 up front, amc 20 out back, 4.10's, welded rear, open front, 36'' TSL's, and leaves on all 4 corners.

I have been reading on this forum for a long time, I joined awhile ago, but never bought a red-star until today. I really like the conglomorate of information that can be found here, so I hope my stay can be enjoyed, both for my experiences, and for learning about others.

Here is a pic of the Jeep.

What is the best ways to keep my rig clean? Sometimes water will spash on it when I run over wood. Also I read that if I take my carpet out I can fit "48 tires, is this true?

Hi

been reading this forum for quite a few years and its been a big part of my mod decisions. thanks for that.

My jeep is a daily driver, 5.5" RE LA, detroit in the rear, stock diffs with 488's (flame away, waiting for it to break) turning 35" boggers. Rest of the mods are minor.

Figured it was about time to make an account. I've been researching the mopar engine swap and planning my upgrade strategy to handle that torque load.

Only big plan I have in the near future is to build a shop large enough to house my projects, toys and tools. The jeep will be wheeled as is until I have that shop filled with the good stuff.

Hi, my name is Frank and I own a 1979 Jeep CJ7. I've been looking at this forum for quite few years, looking to get info on rebuilding and modifying my Jeep. I'm located in Montréal, Canada.

I started working on this pile of Junk:
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y142/FrankCJ7/Jeep%20Lac%20au%20sable/3.jpg

And with a few years of hard working, it now looks like this:
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y142/FrankCJ7/Jeep%20chez%20Gab/JeepchezGab001.jpg

My Jeep is mostly mostly stock, AMC 304 with automatic transmission. It has a fiberglass body covered with Line-X. Suspension consists of a SOA with a rear anti-wrap bar. Differentials are D30 front and D44 rear, once the CJ completed it will be locked front and rear.

Future mods:
Beefier axles (Mog's would be my dream)
Beefier braking system
Cross over Steering
Boggers
Full roll cage
and may be a Chevy 350 with SM465

I have a 76 chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 that is about to rust away but it runs like a haint. I plan on putting it all in my 1979 cj5. D44 front, 14blt rear, 350, turbo350, and np203. It's a huge project, but my brother-in-law owns a machine shop, so I have access to everything I'll need. I'll appreciate any help I can get.

Bad is the only thing holding it together is rust and bondo (thanks to the previous owner I dubbed bondo boy). Oh well a few replacement panels and scrap metal and she'll be good to go.

Another newbie to this site, checking in. '01 Jeep Wrangler Sahara with 4" Rough Country X-series lift and 33's. Been wheeling it since I bought it new, and it is receiving front and rear lockers, a winch and some nice new bumpers within the next month or so. Im looking mainly to share knowledge about modding options and find a few folks around the country to wheel with. Been working overseas two of the last three and a half years or so. I'll be looking early next year to do some wheeling in central texas, and in alabama later into the spring.

Old timer, new to the modern day tech of semi-radical 4x4 (where I want to head now). For many years, as a younger man … I always had a 4x4 … typically a Chev/GMC ½ ton. I worked as a mechanic for several years and always had these a bit beefed up. I've done many radical things, in my youth, in these machines.

Anyway, my son got a totally stock tj sometime back and turned it into a nice Moab rock-crawler (we live in Utah). He took me to Hole-in-the-rock in September and gave me the bug … again.

Today I was at a dealer, looking at a very nice Rubicon (30k base), which they had put about 11k worth of lift, winch, long bars etc. on. Very nice and very tempting. But I decided I want to build my own … So … I’m starting a search for a cj7, don’t even care if it runs, actually hoping for stock as can be, so I don’t feel so bad about throwing everything out … I’m totally new to all of this as the tech/terms have long since passed me by … but my son informs me that a couple dana 60’s loaded up with yukon/eaton’s with some darn $2200 atlas power transferring contraption in between them will be a good start. Of course .. I need to learn about suspension, flex, lift, leaf over … on and on .. but heck winter is coming on, and maybe by next spring I’ll have learned something and have a new toy for the mountains of northern utah (my old experience, lots of mud/snow) as well as a companion rock crawler for my son and I to go find some trouble down south.

So, I apologize in advance for all the dumb questions that are likely to follow …

Hello, My name is Steve, I'm not new to the offroading sport but never owned a Jeep until recently. Long story short it was given to me as long as I hauled it away. It's a 76 CJ5 with 304 V8, Hasn't been licenced since 92 and has sat since but I actually got it running with little effort. http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=13230457&uid=533924&members=1

I first got into offroading about 30 years ago with VW Baja's, Both the wife and I had one and loved chasing each other around in the woods. I'm in the process of building another one now. I'm building adaptors to install portal type axles in it out of a bus. http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=772438&uid=533924&members=1

Another one of my offroad vehicles is a 98 Chevy ZR2 Blazer that is mostly stock except for the 2" body lift and a few added accessories. It has really surprized me for a factory off road vehicle and have had lots of fun with it. It even got featured in the 2005 Oct. edition of Petersens "Readers Rides" Pic of the Month. http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=783364&uid=533924&members=1

Oh yeah, Almost forgot the quads, Nothing special but we love to drag 'em out in the woods or down to the Oregon Dunes. Seems these are the only offroad toys I own that I never work on. http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=10363390&uid=533924&members=1

Anyway, I'm eager to learn as much as I can about my CJ and figured this would be the best place to start. Hope I can be of help to someone someday on this forum because I know a lot of you will help me.

Thanks,

Steve

Good Day,
Well I am a newbie, even though I have had my jeep for awhile. Actually have had 3 Jeeps in my life and this one I can actually use for offroading/rockcrawling. More rockcrawling because you dont see much mud or dirt here, even though its my DD. So if I break it I am screwed!

The first jeep was an 85 CJ7 4 banger manual but when I went overseas it had to go(USAF) wouldnt meet the standards. We purchased a 95 Grand and it saw some snow but that was it, couldn't find a place to wheel over there with out gettng into trouble, Germans are funny that way I heard stories of places but it was more a DD than anything. So I finally made it stateside 2 years ago and sold that (it had too many issues) to buy a 04 Rubicon.

This Jeep has seen some hills here in Southern NM but that is it till May(hopefully Moab) she is stitting stock except for stereo and removal of stickers(if thats a mod). I do plan upgrade but not sure when since I have to finish my HD modifications.

Ok since I am new here is there a page on how to use a search engine, basiclly I want to find out all the info I can find out before I make a final decision on what lift kit. I am leaning heavly to FT Ulimate 4 incher. I would search but there are way to many posts but I am looking to educate myself.

Thank You

Hi. I'm Rick. I had a 1977 cj7 back in the 80's for 10 yrs. I changed the engine, tranny, t-case, body, interior, etc. Did a lot of power lines, mud runs, hill climbs. Sold it in 1992. Haven't had another one until now( life got in the way). I just purchased a 1975 cj5 rolling chassis. Gonna start from the ground up. Problem is, I'm not much of a motor head. I'm ok with my hands and figuring some stuff out( online research ) , but I don't know how to put it all together. At least with the 77 cj7, it was all there. I just had to change things. With only a rolling chassis, well..... that's where you guys(and girls) come in. I have a basic plan of what I want to build, I just need advice on how to do it. Anyway, that's my story. Thanks for having me.

Yet another newbie, been a long time reader just registered.

My name is Cory and I am in Louisville, KY. Been wheeling a while but nothing like some of ya. Had built a nice cj 1 ton with "little" 36's and just recently got a new rig, and 90 yj with spoa 33's and welded rear but other than that bone stock. but that will change!

See ya on the trails

Newbie on this forum and a newbie to Gran Cherokees. Been wheeling for 20 some years in various vehicles from open axles to lockers. From dirt roads to rock crawling. Now to make this Grand into a rockcrawler. Gotta love Jeep axles.

Hi guys. I've got a 94 yj with 2" shackles, welded rear and 31s. Since I made the mistake of welding a 35c I broke an axle. So now I'm in the process of an SOA, 8.8 rear and plan to run 37s. I still haven't decided on the front axle. Any suggestions? It's gonna be a little while until it's done so I figured I'd do a little web wheelin'.

I also have a 91 Dakota with a 3" body lift and 31s and a 93 F-250 LB on 36s. :smokin:

Just checkin in, Newbie on board here.

Name is Jason, and I am a Certified Jeep Tech living in the Burlington Vermont area. Currently have a project / winter beater 97 XJ, 4.0L 5spd, almost bone stock except a rear add a leaf and some BFG A/T's. Plan to go up in the spring and start with my spares set of MTR's then work my way up to 33's. I also have a semi daily driver 04 WJ 4.0 Laredo, with Terraflex budget boost and 245/75/16" GY MTR's, and a bunch of other little doo-dads. Also have a couple Volkswagens, and a BMW. Had a few Audi Quattro's in the past, and a ton of other misc German cars over the last ten years. Lost track of how many cars and Jeeps I have had over the last 12 years, but its somewere in the 50-60 range.

I'm a n00b here.

I watched/helped (in that order) a friend/coworker build his 98rubi into something to turn heads. That was more or less my intro to real jeeps/wheelin.

I remember him showing me some videos from this sight a few years back which brings me to now:

I'm selling and saving at the moment. Selling that is my 2001 Golf GLS 1.8t which has been good to me, but is now too small for my family. Saving some money to buy a 07 wrangler 4-door, 4x4, 6 speed.

As far as my offroading, most of it is done on my mountain bike. Rock crawling? On my trials bike.

I mainly want a jeep because I know that I can count on parts being around for it forever, and I am sure I can keep it running.

Thats all. Check out my sig if you're looking for a good reliable Daily driver that gets 25+ mpg.

thats something I've thaugh about diesels do crawl well

wouldn't you need to retain the jeep bellhousing and adapt it to the block? Are you using a isuzu or custom flywheel?

I'll be following your build-up with interest

Been lurkin for a little while, figured I'd pipe in. I own a 95 YJ, fourth Jeep, first one to see use as a trail rig. Used to wheel an 86 'yota till the frame broke and I came to my senses. I've been through a 79 Cherokee, 78 J10, 87 Comanche and now this. I usually wheel at the Cliffs (http://thecliffsinsaneterrain.com/)

Just another new guy on the forums. I've been messing with Jeeps for ~10 years and I've been playing with Tacomas for ~3-4 years. I'm currently building my third Jeep. My Tacoma is my DD and family "car".

The newest Jeep is a 1998 TJ Sport with a 5 spd. I rescued this Jeep from a miserable life. The last 3 owners were highschool girls. It had a 3" BL and 31" street tires on some hideous alum. wheels. I ripped the carpet out only to find no fewer than 5 tubes of lipstick melted in various places, along with more hair clips than anyone could ever need. I could have bought a hi-lift with all the money I found stashed/hidden/lost throughout this Jeep (though I'm not complaining about that).

I'm currently running the stock engine, trans, xfer and axles :nuke: with a 4" superlift, 1" daystar, 33x10.50 BFG MT's on black steel wheels.

Future plans-
a real roll cage, onboard air
axle swap (mog portals sound nice) :cool2:
engine swap (probably go diesel...4bt, maybe something lighter if I can find it)
transmission (nv4500 most likely, but it depends on the engine I pick)
xfer case (atlas II)

hello, just purchased a new JK (currently on order). Looking forward to getting into this hobby and learning a lot from you guys. I've been lurking around and reading for a few weeks now. Some really good info and inspirations project-wise.

My JK will be primarily a DD for now, but as soon as I can - I'll be hitting you all up. Thanks for a great board!

newbie here, just bought a '94 YJ with a 6 cyl. that has 74,000 miles on it. Its going to be a trail only rig so I am building it up. I've got the jeep and a front and rear dana 60 to put under it. For the rest I am on a $5,000 budget. I read somewhere a gm 14 bolt is better axel than a dana 60 is that true, should I sale the rear 60? I've been reading on here for a few months now and I'm gonna get my red star so I can search. Look forward to learning from you guys.

Newbie here, and been 4wheelin for about 12yrs have a 93yj and been re-building for the past few years, took it to the rubicon 2 half yrs ago and lets just say it was not ready for that trip, I thought it was f/r lockers d30f/full floater d35r/full floater 4" lift w/shackle reversal. All that did not matter, made it to spyder lake and that was it, lucky we had a weilder in our group.
So now I'm looking for a litte help. I've been stuck on a problem in the rear of the jeep upper shock mount passenger side. It had broke off on that trip, the bolt that the shock mounts too. I'm talking clean break and I was wondering if any one had any other way of doing new shock mounts in the rear?

New (to Pirate) and fairly new to the Jeep scene. Had my YJ for about 5 months now, I've got a Rough Country 4" lift, RE 5" greasable shackles, and 33X12.5 BFG Muds on 15X10 rockcrawlers. Next future mods are TJ flares and bumpers. Soon enough I'd like to have a Dana 44 with 4:56's (front/rear), lockers and a Warn 9500ti.

Hi, I'm finally subscribed after reading the forums for i don't know how long. I have an 01 xj that is getting some 33's stuck under it once i get some wheels for them. The jeep is my daily driver so it is not getting that much more lift, maybe another inch or two, but for the most part it is done. All that I have left to do before I start a project truck is to just replace the control arms, front and rear axles, do some drive line mods, and maybe hydro assist.

Hi all,
Enumclaw, WA here. Just bought a M38A1 & it's my 1st in years. I already snapped a rear spring in the 1st 10min I hit the dirt. I'm on here to find info on making my own 4-link. I'm an old drag racer, so I can fab whatever I need, but I thought I better get some input before I take a crack at it.

Hello Pond Scum.
I'm not new to Pirate, but new to this forum. Thought I would pop in here and introduce myself, diehard scout man, but I just had a deal dropped my way I couldn't refuse. A 1979 Jeep CJ-5, basic iowa rust with only 70,000 miles on it. Sat in a shed for 8 years of it's life. A good harley buddy offered it to me for a whooping $100. So I'm going to pick it up sunday. I had a 76 CJ-7 years ago that was a total rust case that I redid and wheeled with for a couple of years until I had a bad rollover that ended its life. Now it looks like I'm back in the jeep crowd again. Anyone know what swaps from scout to jeep/jeep to scout? I know the transfer case does, and I might have a line on a 80 scout with a dana 300. I would like to find one of the fiberglass tops I've seen online for a cj-5. I'll come back in and post pictures once I get it home......and for those that want to do the scout vs.jeep thing....:flipoff2:

I am pretty new in here. Just been reading different forums for the past few days, and wanted to introduce myself, and learn a few things.
I just bought a 2000 Wrangler about 4 or 5 months ago, and have been 4-wheeling it twice since then.
I went down to Las Cruces NM. Chili Challenge and drove the Intermediate trails down there, and had blast! Since then, I have 4-wheeled one more time on some local sand hills here in Albuquerque NM.
Like I said, I got a 2000 Wrangler, and when I bought it, it had a 4 inch Rough Counrty Lift with 33x12.50 Micky Thompson Baja Claws on it. It also has a Posi Rear end, but I think it has stock gears.
I am wanting to learn more about 4-wheeling, and also what to do to make my jeep a little stronger without breaking the bank!... Maybe like a grand or $1500

any help on finding these axles (looked in the classified section already) is much obliged.

Long time troll - read,read,read... But never had more than a boat-anchor diesel for wheelin...

BUT looky-looky what that diesel drug home - A brand new (to me) 1984 Cj7 with chevy inerds and 44/60 combo underneth...

One issue - 40inch bogger on a D44 front??? I asked the guy why not a D60, he said never broke the 44, so never worried about it....

Checking in as per the instructions.

I have a 98 TJ, pretty much stock. I live in FL, but am currently in Aghanistan courtesy of the US Army.

I hope to spend some of this hard earned "hazard pay" on the Jeep when I get home.

Hello to all, I am new to pirate4x4 but not jeeps. I read alot of the posts but really do not post or reply to many, that may change. I have several projects going but focus on a 91 YJ SOA with Dana 60s and 40 inch boggers.
