Has anyone put a Chrysler 4.7 in a TJ with the newer 5 spd tranny? I heard you can get one out of a newer dakota and it will bolt right up because they are running the same tranny. Is that true?

Does anyone know about motor mounts, wiring etc...

Thanks

Yeah I've been wondering a similar question. Will the 5 speed auto from a 4,7l bolt up to a 5,7l Hemi. Maybe some tranny god will clue us in.

my buddy at AA, did the 318 swap which would be the same as the 360 (in a sence), you need to get the motor from a truck not a GC because of the cluster computer. the trucks practly a plug and play. he endup using the trucks 5speed and a Atlas2. it made life alot easitere. give him a call at Advance Adapteres and ask from Rob. he will tell you all you need to know, btw they are workin on a vortech ls1 swap in a TJ right now.

Dan McKeag at Burnsville offroad did a 4.7 from a WJ into a TJ. You many want to give him a buzz...

Shop owners always love it when you call and milk them for info but don't spend any money with them :flipoff2: ;)

it will work but i went with the automatic 5 speed instead as the tranny really compliments the motor.wiring is still in the process with me motor is in just make some or i know a dude who made skyjackers mounts for there 4.7 but your better of making some mounts from scratch .i used chevy shackles and cut them apart and weld them into the frame while retaing the factory rubber mount.....

Anyone catch the article in the current Jp issue on John Currie's dad's build-up of his TJ that included a 4.7L installation?

He has all the money, time, and expertise in the world available to him and he said he wished he had just installed a Chevy 350 into his TJ instead... that the 4.7L installation he did was a royal PITA and not worth the extra effort it took, especially on the electronic side of things.

yeah, i noticed that article, like i said before, AA is doing the swap of a lt1 or ls1 in a tj right now, so pretty soon they should be offering all that is needed to do a chevy swap in a TJ. thats what i would prefer...if i wanted a v8. although i know the chevy swap will cost alot more.

Why would the Chevy cost a lot more. I know it would cost a lot less.

well..for one more issues need to be address with the chevy swap than with a mopar engine (like the 318 or 360). go ahead and call AA i am sure they can give you a run down, if you want more info and prices.

i dunno, you pretty much have all the same issues to deal with on any v8 conversion, whether it be chebby, ford, or chrysler...most people seem to believe there will be less wiring issues with a mopar engine, but your essentially building a stand alone harness whether you do it yourself or get a plug and play harness...other than that, its just all the standard stuff, fitment, exhaust, fuel, cooling, etc.
in any case this doesnt really have much to do with the topic, so moving right along..

I spent some tie on the phone the the Curries talking about their 4.7 in the Fire Ant, and they used a TCM from a WJ that was suppoed to be exported to ............. I think China (I could be wrong on the country there) might be Malasia.... either way... they told me that they had some Engineers from Chrysler down there trying to figure out ow to get the tranny to shift right and that wa the biggest problem because of the bussing of the 7 computers and how the TCM uses the speed sensor, which the info is ported through the ABS computer first, then the PCM, then to the TCM to tell the proper shift points and so on. Anyway the Curries had problems with that so they firgured out through Chrysler that those WJs dont use that system, and if they just swapped TCMs, they would not need to run the entire wiring bus on the Fire Ant to get the transmission to shift properly....... This is all second hand info, but that is what John Currier told me over the phone when I was wiring my 4.7 up.... which I did not order a TCM from malasia or wherever the fawk.......... :flipoff2:

Still working on it by the way.... It runs though... :)
