Just thought I would check with others before I go any further:flipoff2:

Just get out the stick or the MIG, fill it up with weld, then grind back to close to original profile with a die grinder....:D:flipoff2:

Nope just your garden variety 4.10. I don't need no stinkin' 4.75's!!

how many miles on the gears?
anyone have thoughts on how the mileage on the gears affects the life?
IE like proper break in period along with correct setup for longer life and less likelyhood of failure?
I think Billster's 4.75's were relatively new?
John P's 4.10's questionable setup??(maybe I'm pulling this outa my .....)
Troy's new?
LWB?

Maybe the material is too hard and needs to be softened up a bit (so they are not so brittle). I would gladly sacrifice longevity for strength in my application. And I doubt many (although I am sure there are a few) that are running 37" plus tires will put many miles on them.
I am not sure break-in has anything to do with these failures. They are all catastrophic, and as a result of the pinion pulling back from the ring gear and snapping teeth off.
I also think I remember Bill D. saying something about the new extreme gear sets not needing any breakin mileage because of the heat treatment and stress relieving already done to them (not positive on that one though).

I installed those gears about 2 years ago. Probably have 5-10K miles on them at most. Barely broken in, in my mind!
