My question revolves around that metal lip thingy that sits under our fender flares. Is that thing spot-welded to the body? Can I just find the spot welds somehow and drill them out and remove that thing? Any suggestions?

Thanks guys.

Yup, its spot welded on. If you take off the flare, you should be able to see the welds. You can drill the welds out, like you said, but it will look pretty fun with a bunch of little holes all around it. The way I did it was using a grinder and grinding over the spot welds. Then it will pop off. Get ready for some rust underneath, though. :D ~Steve

i've never seen a fender flare-less zuk without that little edge, so unless everyone else is as lazy as me, it must be spot welded on.:D

Normally I'd respond to the rust issue with.. rust - whats that? But since the little Zuk is from Cali.. I'm sure it has some secrets waiting for me :D If I do drill them out, I'll weld em up, and grind em back down.. then do a little touchup body work. Seems kinda a waste since I know its going to be bashed against rocks, but at least it will look good for now :cow:

HI -

There is a tool made for doing this. It is called a "spot weld removing tool". They are pretty cheap - about $15.00. Works like this - take a center punch and punch in the middle of each spot weld. Put the spot removing tool in the drill - looks like a little miniature hole saw with a spring loaded guide pin. Put the guide pin in the center punch mark and drill using light pressure. It cuts a little circle right around the spot weld. Be sure to only drill the FIRST layer. As soon as you get to the last one, the flare bracket falls right off! Go back with a little air sander and sand down the little nubbins and now you have no UGLY brackets!

when i took mine off, i just used a grinder on all the spot welds and it came off with out any problems.....
It leaves a little bit of metal on the fender from the flare, but just grind that a little and then throw some paint over it.....
