The center is 3x3x.188 it drops to 3x2x.188 for the sides. The upper nerf is tied into the tub with .250 reinforcements. I will fill the seam to body sealer. The rack hinge is a spring hanger for a semi truck and uses a 1.25" grade 8 in a forged aluminum mount with a hard bronze insert.

Travis, while you are shopping for bumpers, you need to replace your rear crossmember. It's flimsy peice of sheet metal and you will be glad you replaced it. E-mail to talk about what's involved.

Anyone have some pix of the rear bumper off of an 80?
Specifically, pictures on how (if) you replaced the crossmember & body mounts.
I'm also curious how you extended out the frame to mount to the bumper...

I was thinking of some angle, but I'm concerned about how the frame flairs/drops at the end.....

4" x 4" 3/16" wall square tube. Works wonders for your crossmember. :D

bobbed the truck before i did it...but aside from that im very happy with it...the picture is pre-welded...it could use a little more support on the wrap-arounds...but its taken a nasty pounding in stride a few times...its 2X4 steel...i think 3/16th wall, but not posistive (theres been a lot of steel added and its hard to keep track)...and it is welded to the body all the way around...had to modify the tailgate to make it work...but i dont run one nowadays so it doesnt matter

thanks for the compliment:D

Here's the only pic I can find of my rear bumper for my 80. I just made brackets using 3/8" plate, drilled 4 holes for each, then drilled the holes into the rear crossmember. At the time I didn't reinforce the rear crossmember, but in the future it will be welded to the frame with additional reinforcements. The rod you see sticking straight up is for the spare tire carrier. That I can't find any good pics of though. HTH

edit: BTW the bumper is made out of 2.5 x .250 chrome moly. Very Stout Stuff :D
