I did a search a came out empty, I would really really love to see some pics of just how to mount the Ford shock towers on my Wrangler. I want them to look clean and fit good so should I cut the stock Yj towers in half or cut them off the frame all together? Any help is good for me thanks guys.:smokin: :skull:

I cut the towers off my YJ and welded and bolted them onto the frame. Not too sure if you can see them in the pic.

Cut the old ones completely off! I just installed them on my CJ and they came out really clean. A couple of my friends with YJ's have them installed also. I can e-mail you pics if you want....

I don't have any pics, but i cut my stock towers about in half (cut,, then place the ford towers against the frame, keep cutting the stock toeres down until the ford towers lie flat to the frame rail.
Then, I welded the ford towers to both the frame AND the remaining stock tower (works well as an extra brace).

I cut my old mount completely off because with the 44044s I had to move my shock tower forward about 3". It's flush with the frame bottom at it's lowest point and allows my shock to have about 6" up travel. The little lip on the side makes it look like it's below the frame in this pic but it sits flush, very clean.

i dont know if the YJ shock mounts are the same as CJ stock mounts but what i did to get a longer shock was add onto the existing shock mount. i cut off the top inch or so of my stock mount. i then took 1x1 solid squar stock and placed it in the open side of the shock tower. then you can weld a bolt on the top of it at any hieght you want. i think mine are about an inch from the top of the fender well. it was very cheap and easy to do .
here is a pic of the shock mount before we extended the.....you can kind of see how the shock mount ends only a few inches from the frame....

and here you can see that the shock is at the top of the fender. it works very well....

They are stocked at any Ford dealership - cost around $20 - $24 for the pair.

not sure if it will work for yours but a on a buddy's yj we just cut the very top of the yj mounts out. we then added a weld on shouck mount ( the type "C" shaped style). we cut the top of the yj mounts so that the "C" type weld on shock bracket could be layed on it and welded all the way around. then a standared eye type shock could be used. this gave him enough highth from his mounts to run 5012's (same length as the 9012's). anyway this worked out great for his. you might try and see if it will work for you.
