you can gain 3/4" of an inch just with the grinder and still have more than enough meat left so no worries of cracking the housing, the only other alt. is to grind all the way down and weld a new plate on the bottom?:D :D

I used a skillsaw with a metal cutting blade to make the major cut, then finished it with a 4" grinder, took about 20min.

There are pic on my site, I'd post them here but can't figure out how, maybe I'm not allowed :D , anyway just click below if you want to see the pics.

Yea I did a search after I posted:smokin: ,but that only brought up my post and lakerats, which is a little more shave than I care to do. I guess I can use my little friend super sawsal to make the main cut and use the grinder for the rest. Is it possible to take off a little more without having to weld in a plate. Sorry to lazy to look.
thanks

Check out PYRO's site. He's got a nice shaved 14-bolt. Similiar to what I want to do to mine if it ends up going in.

I just got rid of the lip so I could slid over rocks a little easier, used a sawz-all and a grinder, here is what I did.

Also in this picture it looks like you ended up not shaving quite that much can you clarify.

Comparitivly it looks as though Co5K was a little more conservative.

Now does anyone have pictures of a drastic cut with a welded on plate?

Yeah, I was very conservative, I could have cut more but I wanted to just get rid of the rock catching lip and keep it strong and leak free.

Those pics are of the front d60 not the 14.
The 60 was cut through as shown in the frist pic which only left about a 1/4" of the housing. Then 1/4" plate was added to the bottom and sides

well the ring gear isn't hanging out the bottom so you didn't shave enough:flipoff2: no it looks good. do you have any probs keeping the diff cover from peeling back without the lower bolt in there? i kept the lower bolt in mine but i did have to swap it with a allen head bolt with a small head to keep it from hangin down below the pumpkin.

I plan on shaving down the cover a 1/4in. more than the lip of the housing. I an going to fill in the bolt hole with weld and grind it flush and finally pray the extra rtv will keep the leaks at bay.
Do you really think I should shave it an extra inch or two.
