i have an 85 fj60 with a 92 350 tbi conversion. is there anyone out there who can enlighten me as to why i continue to get a vehicle speed sensor trouble code from the ecm. the vss is good as is the wiring. is there another sensor that might be causing the problem(i.e park/neutral switch, torque clutch convertor, etc.)
THANKS.

Is it grounded to the same place as your ECM is grounded. I've never had problems with mine but I remember reading that it needed to be grounded at the same place as the ECM in the directions.
Another thought, are you 100% sure you have the right speed sensor. I know that there were some changes in later models.
Other than those two things I can't think of anything else.
Please post your solution if you find one, I've never had problems in 4 years of running mine. But if I'd start having problems I'd sure like to know where to start looking.
Later!

The best way to get rid of this problem forever is to have Howell Industries burn you a new PROM chip it costs about 110$ but it is worth it cause it bypasses the VSS completly. Neve have to deal with it again!

Howells phone # is (810) 765-5100 Just tell them what you are up to they will hook you up. My friend Has a FJ60 with a TBI 350 and had the same problems as you got a PROM chip burned ant it works perfict no more trouble codes! As to your other question about afecting other stuff it wont cause it is a whole new prom chip burned with out a VSS so the computer does not know any better its like it never existed.

What happens if you program out the VSS in the ECM? Doesn't that keep the engine from running optimally? Also, where can you purchase an VSS. My friend is planning to install a TBI motor and 700R4 (non electronic) on his FJ60.

I found a lot of info related to EFI conversions on links at the IH8MUD web site. One of these links is below:
http://members.aol.com/customefis/GMEFIDIY.html
There was also a link to www.diy-efi.org but it wasn't working this morning.
I found both sites very helpful to plan an installation. The was a reference to a 2 pulse and a 4 pulse VSS. Maybe you have the wrong one for your computer?
