: Longer Brake lines

Who makes/can make longer brake lines for the Rover? I am running 22" lines on the front and noticed that under full flex that they seem to be VERY tight. Might even be limiting travel. Of course the ABS wiring is tight as well and is taking some of the load off of the brake lines.

So anyway, I just added a 1" spacer to the front springs to lift the front of the truck up (This ones for you Redrangie) and figure that now I have the capability to completely rip apart a brake line whenever I want to. This is bad. So basically I think I am going to go with 25" brake lines on the front. I need 4 of them (Rangie). Who makes them at a reasonable price?

Why not just extend the rigid brake line down another couple of inches, probably a lot cheaper to do................

Sort of related.

Larry, when you are fully extended do you loose brake pressure?

Most professional hydraulic shops can make you brake hoses to fit. Worst caase, you'll need to take the old ones in and have them fab from there.

don't go 25". I have 24" and they are 6" TOO short with 9012's!

Matt can order you some from Earls for 35 ea, any length, and aai performance in Arvada will do them while you wait. I am just going to use hard line, with a six inch extension.

Physically check you calipers though, as they can be either male or female. If you go with the extension only, you can get away with a male/female.

What are you guys doing about the ABS sensors? any way to extend them, or is it splice and solder?

Brian,
I don't think I am loosing pressure at full extension.

John,
I was kind of considering going a little longer but thought I might be overdoing it as usual. What length do you suggest.... 26", 28", 40"???

little_joe,
I don't use the abs anymore, it quit working and I unplugged the bulb. I would think you could just extend the wires, assuming it doesn't add much resistance to the circuit. Along these same lines, anyone ever remove the ABS computer since they weren't using it? Just curious if I can unplug it and remove it, or if that would cause catastrophic brake failure.

I just pulled the fuse on my abs. light is always on but i figure eventually it will burn out.

When I am at full articulation i loose brake pressure. I am thinking that i am slightly stretching my lines causeing the problem?

This could be happening, I usually don't have to hit the brakes really hard during full flex. I would guess that it is possible though. What length lines are you running? I forget what your lift is as well?

Im still running stock lines. Lift is about 3 1/2" and sg droop kit in rear with listen rear shocks and ome front.

Hmmmmmmmm...... This could be why you loose brake pressure, so you aren't even running SS lines? I'll bet those rubber lines stretch really good.:flipoff2:

hehe.....as long as I know why something does something it doesn't bug me nearly as much.

I am goint to go with a 32" I believe. and only through a hard line extension. I can not see the sense of replacing perfectly good lines for nothing. Also, this way, all you need to do is go to a store and get 3/16" male/female with an adapter if needed.

John, Are your stock right now? Are you running SS Lines? I figure it's just as easy to replace the SS Lines with longer versions, besides there is a market for used SS Lines over on Dweb. I would probably only end up spending about $50 for all 4 after selling the old lines.

24" SS, Earls.

I still have 4 inches of shock left when they're tight.

There is some slack in the ABS cables that can be pulled out. Some attachments may have to be moved/redone. At least this works on a Defender.

I've decided to cut the ABS sensor wire (doesn't work anyways) and remove the front shocks and flex the front-end as much as possible, measuring my desired brake line and adding a few inches for good measure.

I am going to check into having mine extended, hopefully it will be cheaper.

The only thing you have to consider when you get longer flex lines is that they'll probably hang below the axel tube at normal compression and present itself as a "catch-all" or rub themselves against the inside of your tires. Ask me how I know..............

Marty,
I had already thought of this. I plan to use a bungee cord to hold them against the frame while the front-end isn't flexing. This seems to work well on Jeeps and such.

FWIW I called a local place AAI Speed in Denver and they quoted me around $80 for 4 new SS Lines cut to my spec. Claim same day turnaround.

I'll be taking them one of my current lines Monday for them to use as a template. I'll see how it works out and check back in.

BTW What length lines do some of you with big tires and wheel travel use?
