OK lets get this straight: to use the stock carrier in my rear 96 zoo 44 my only high gear options are 4.10, 4.30, 4.88 from RRRP

if I go to a new 3.92 carrier I can run all normal 3.92 to 5.28 44 gear sets

if I go to a new 3.73 carrier I cam run all 2.25 to 3.73 44 gear sets

the only real funky thing about the zoo 44 is teh thick ring gear right?

You currently have a 3.73-down carrier with thick gears on it. All standard 3.73-down gears will fit it as well as thick gears.

If you wanted to run 3.92-up standard gear you would need a new carrier.

Check the Rubicon 4.88 thread in the Isuzu forum. It has a link with a picture that should make this more clear. If you tried to put standard 3.92-up gears on a 3.73-down carrier there would be a gap between the ring gear and the pinion gear.

Actually "stock" Zu gears come in four flavors: 4.10, 4.30, 4.56 and 4.77, any one of which would use the 3.73 and down carrier as RC mentioned.

CORRECT!

EXAMPLE: get the axle..forget about what's in it......buy a 3.92+ full carrier locker and matching regular Dana 44 gear set and you are in business :D

or get the appropriate open Spicer carrier and matching ring gear and drop a Lockright into if if you are so inclined.

there are really a lot of ways you can approach these rear axles...that is one reason it gets confusing. Many more options than the standard D44 w/ drums.
