Has anyone needed to do this on a trail? What precautions to take?

You use ether , aka starting spray. Have the valve core removed before you light it.

I have never actually done this but have been curious. I have seen a video somewhere about the correct way to do this.

What is the entire process for this? I suspect Brian is asking the same question. (BTW the thread really doesn't detail it that well).

I think you remove valve core, spray in lighter fluid or something moderatley flammable. Only spray for a few seconds at most. Then you light it?

I'm no expert but it goes like this:

Spray starting spray inside the entire rim, all 360 degrees. You need to have the valve core out so the excessive hot air will vent, and then allow additional air in after the air in the tire cools.

you all have a fawking death wish.

Go down to your local tire store and get some tire soap. The shiat comes in tubs, and looks like axle grease. Smear on bead, inflate.

(with compressor)

holding bead to rim (as in lifting up on it).

Redrangie.....when the enimie is aproaching fast what better thing to do than make them think you have blown yourself up? And jsut when they are fooled you drive away with your happily seated bead and over the next obstical. They will never know what hit them and you can throw a :flipoff2: there way.

I want to try it in a controled environment.

I'll help and watch from a safe distance Brian.

I saw this technique (don't remember it being ether though) on a show about some land cruisers that went accross Antarctica. At first it did nto go too well, but they got the technique down. Eventually. Seems too risky to me, but I'll watch with a fire extinguisher in hand.

That's where I saw it! I knew it was recently but couldn't remember where.

Other than the fact that they are Darwin Nominees for not wearing set belts that seemed to clear some things up. Now if I understand everyone correctly the thing they did wrong was not removing the valve core first? Is that the only problem there, at least speaking of only the tire reseating effort.

A guy in town tried that trick with a tire, I don't know how much lighter fluid he put in, the tire blew off the rim and nearly crippled the poor bastard. I talked to him once and he's still not sure, he was the only one there, what quite happened but he's completely over the lighter fluid trick.

I've only seen the starting fluid dealio done twice...generally we use a ratchet strap around the center and the Co2 Tank.
