This weekend I got a deal on some 38s that I can't pass up. I am just wondering what lift are you running to clear your 38s. If you are running a SOA what spring are you using. I do not want to cut the body until I get my TJ flares this winter. Thanks in advance.

On my 85 CJ-7 I have 4" springs and SOA with a 14 bolt and D60 which gave me another inch over the stock axles and I can clear the 38's but they will rub if I get it in a bind. Sawsall come out in a few days.. With stock axles 4" springs SOA and 2" body they clear fine..

Run some Rubicon Express srping 4inch or go with skyjacker or superlift, Also if you dont want to cut the body put on a 2inch body lift and 38's should fit with little rubbing..But dont be affraif of the sawz all!! <IMG SRC="smilies/usa.gif" border="0">

2 1/2 Lift spring with a spring over and 3 inch body with some fender tremming.

I run 38.5's and with a combination of a SOA with 2.5" springs and a 1.5" body lift i fit them easily... plenty of room to tuck. (I have TJ flares too)

Thank you for the help. I am going with 2 1/2" springs and TJ flares. What spring do you recommend? I have ran Pro Comp in the past and been very pleased except they were a little stiff.

Although I don't run 38s yet (often true sioze of a 38 is actual 36" or so), I can easily fit them.

I have a 2.5" SOA, with TJ flares and a 1" body lift (keeping that for the NV4500).

I ran a Pro Comp 4" lift SUA for a while and it was a STIFF ride. If you put the lift in a SOA configuration it would probably work pretty good. I ran the main leaf from the rear on my rear pack for a while and I really liked it until it pretzled.

I've fuct too many springs to even consider getting another spring that isn't military wrapped, at least they make you break 2 leaves before they leave you stranded. So my opinion is you can't afford not to get them. So go with a set of BDS, OME or custom springs,

if your worried about stiffness, try ordering a soft ride superlift kit. they have the minimal spring rate and are SUPPOSED to be a very comfortable ride. -russel

I am SOA w/4in springs in the front with a S/R and 5in in the rear with a 2in body lift. I stuff all the way into the rear and have taken a sawzall to all I can within the wheelwell and a bit more. Same with the front too. Actually, I have cut the inner fenders and bent them back to clear.

With all this said, I don't think I am extra flexy or anything, but I just BARELYmake it.
1TrickYJ you are never gonna make it with just 2 1/2in springs and TJ flares...NEVER!I also wanted to add, that my clearence probs in the front stem from the axle rotating back and commin in contact with the firewall/wheelwell.

i run rear cj jc whitney 7 leaf hd's at all 4 corners soa and a 3" body lift and i clear them fine. i just flattened my front fenders and i am thinking of removing the 3" bodylift. if i cut the rear i can do it.

Ive seen his rig flex out, and the only thing it hits is the very outside of the front tj flare.. if that..... not bad at all..

massey2kill Osama bin Ladin I have a question for you, I was just looking at your pics and was wondering where you got your front driveshaft? (pic 32)

1TrickYJ-I have 2" Rancho's SOA w/D44's f&r and I fit 35x12.5's perfectly w/ no body lift. My tires actually measure 34 and change, so they are pretty accurate.
Are your axles stock? because they will tuck in better than wider axles under compression. If you have full size ax's you would probably need to be higher, but it also depends on the width of the tire and also the backspacing on the wheels. <IMG SRC="smilies/idea.gif" border="0">

It doesn't surprise me considering that each friggin YJ is it's own uniquely different beast.

Are his axles wider? less back spacing maybe?

My front doesn't need as much lift as it has if I can move the front axle forward, but the back needs it FO SHO!

I got it from Jesse @ high angle driveline. Ya know the Guy that is giving away a free D-shaft every month here on the POR. Except mine wasn't free. It was like $350 or so. Impressive girth eh? I couldn't believe the difference between the stocker and High Angle's. My eyes did this <IMG SRC="smilies/eek.gif" border="0">! It is high quality and think tubing. I have smack'ed a couple of rocks with it nad it's just scratched. Beef Baby!

Yeah well, I dont pretend my rear end is all that flexy right now <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0"> I wrapped em up REALLY hard and took a superlift 3.5 main leaf, cut the eyes off, and bolted it down over my springs <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> They dont wrap now, but they dont flex either <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0"> It's under the knife right now for a revamped buggy setup <IMG SRC="smilies/thefinger.gif" border="0">

massey, he is running a waggy 44 front with 1.5" spacers and an 8.8 rear with 1.5" spacers, I believe.. he will correct me on this if Im wrong.. with MRT beadlocks, not sure on the backspacing, and his tires are38.5x15.5x15 TSL's..
