what is the best way to deal with the cast-in-radius-arm mounts being out too far? just lean the coils out and bolt them down? move the coil buckets out?

The best way would be to get rid of it and get one with welded on C-bushing mounts. The D44 you have should have disk brakes on it so you can get an older D44 and swap everything over.

Why would he want to do that?
His D44 is much stronger than a regular D44. It's not that hard to cut off those c mounts and relocate them and you can even order new ones from James Duff if you totally fawk them up taking them off. Stick with that RRD44 whatever you do but will need to relocate the c mounts , you can't just run it like they are.

 Have you ever seen the later HP44's with the wedges cast into the yolk? You don't just grind those off. HP44's before 78 have the welded on ones that are a snap to remove.

Im not saying dont get a HP44. Im saying get a older one that has welded C mounts on. Hell if you know how to cut the cast ones off I would sure like to know. Only way I have thought I could do it would be to retube it.
