: console critique - pics
AGGIECJ-7 07-02-2003, 04:34 PM here is a pic of the console i plan on building for my Heep. the over all deminsions are 12"x10"x26"(HxWxL).....does anyone know the distance between the seats on a CJ. im sure its the same on a YJ if you have those by chance. it will be mounted to the bars that the seats are mounted on. there will be a lockable water tight lid on the radio and the actual console part.

Spank 07-02-2003, 04:41 PM It definitley needs a few more X braces and some frame tie ins. :flipoff2:
AGGIECJ-7 07-02-2003, 04:43 PM LMAO.....i am gonna build a "cage" for it(skeleton). whats the thinest wall 1/2" andle iron you can buy? also anyone got a source for lockable latches. i want them that kind of look like tool box locks.
mrblaine 07-02-2003, 04:47 PM I do that kind of stuff for a living. Build consoles for computers in vehicles and am always asked to provide accomodation for beverage holders.
Rule #1 is to never place a beverage holder where the top of the container is above any electrical or electronic device that can be damaged by spilled liquids.

Austen Hardware has a ton of stuff, McMaster Carr does, Thomas hardware, Austen and Thomas are more Emergency vehicle oriented(why I use them) than McMC is.
Do you know the specific style?

i figure that i can close the lid when i am not changing the station or track, however i am sure that i will not really ever close it. what would you suggest on how to designe it?
BJ On Roids 07-02-2003, 04:53 PM you know its hardcore when its got cupholders
seriously though, does it curve around closer to the driver, or is it that i cant look at drawings?
AGGIECJ-7 07-02-2003, 04:54 PM it is 10" wide the entire length. he only "curved" part is so that the stereo and CB are not verticle or horizontal.

just get a remote for your head deck. then it can be closed and the remote velcro'ed to your roof, or steering wheel.
AGGIECJ-7 07-02-2003, 05:12 PM hmmm....i never thought of that. ill have to check in to that.
i was also thinking of using trailer wiring harness to hook all the electrical wires through. that way if/when i have to remove the console, it will be easily detachable.
KrebsATM02 07-02-2003, 05:32 PM Hey ya turd, I think this is my 5th post on here. Why didn't you post on our board?
Anyways... What are you making it out off??
Couple of things, the angle of the head unit, for 2 reasons.
First is for the glare the angle of the fac on the head unit gets makes it hard to see. You have to compromise here, the flatter angle, the better for clarity. Obviously at some point you won't be able to see the screen at all because it will be to flat. Also, you can make it flatter by moving the whole console forward.
Second, most headunits i have had play cd's better when they are flat.
Also, the inset of the lockable part where the stereo and cb are will collect nasty shit. Dirt, food remains, boogers, etc...
PM me if you want any more advice
texican 07-02-2003, 05:44 PM Why not just buy a Tuffy?
