The date of the event is set. March 23, 2002

The event will be staged from FWD's leased land south of Talihina/north of Clayton.

It would consist of 2 Jeep Teams with 4 people on a team. The teams would be required to do the following (some events may be added or subtracted between now and event time)

A 3-5 mile timed canoe run down the Pushmataha River
A dead reckoning course run of about 30 miles
A GPS coordinate Navigation event where you would have to find waypoints and take a picture of your jeep in front of a landmark, 15 landmarks, approx 6 hours to complete, some of the landmarks will be on easy logging roads, while others will take some real four wheeling to get to them
A mud bog event for time and distance
A tire changing contest for speed
A log carrying race
An obstacle course run with paintball targets for extra points
A high lift jack winching contest
A final Time Speed Distance road course

This event entry fee will be determined in the next week or two. It will most likely be in the neighborhood of $80/team [member and the following would be included:

Canoe Rental
Camping Fee
Breakfast on first day for team members
Lunch or Dinner on Sunday
Mud Drag Entry
Land Use fee for leased land
CASH PRIZES

OK, here are the two main kickers of the event, the event will take place over a 26 hour period, beginning around 10 am on Saturday, ending noon on Sunday. There will be a short 4-5 hour break for sleep and repairs.

Second, when you enter camp on Saturday morning, you must bring ALL your gear needed for the weekend. No trips into town for gas, parts, food, etc. etc.

Each team will need to supply the following:

At Least One GPS Unit
CB Radio
Street Legal Vehicles w/insurance
All tools, spare parts, gasoline, camping gear, food and water for the period of the event
High Lift Jack
Polaroid Camera and 3 boxes of film or Digital Camera with LCD Screen

Team members should be able to enter waypoints into a compass, read a map, follow directions using dead reckoning skills, be able to follow basic instructions, paddle a canoe and have fun.

The event will be limited to the first 30 teams. There will be coverage by a major national publication of the event.

Get with your buddies, club mates and form a team. Find a sponsor to sponsor your team if you wish. Make up a funky team name and then Reserve your spot by emailing me at doug@cowtownjeeps.com. Entry forms will be online in the next week or so.

BTW, this is an official FWD-FWD event, but is not limited to FWD members.

Say Doug,

If you can have "At least one GPS", why would you need to be able to " enter waypoints into a compass, read a map, follow directions using dead reckoning skills?"

Have you looked into availability of the proper scale maps for Freilings' place to be able to use a map and compass to navigate, or is it going to be a GPS run?

Sounds like a blast!

Hey Doug,

I am going to try to get a team form Lone Star Land Cruisers at our December meeting, so yes, we should have a Yota team.
