My Son took the Scout down to try to run it thru the smog Nazis. The engine is a supercharged 427 BBc and so on. The thing is I never had it smogged. I always just get a temp tag and drive it.
My Son said the tester told him "You told me it was only slightly modified!". He had a big crowd around when he unloaded it off the trailer and they were taken bets it wouldn't come close to passing. The guys were from the nearby mech shops and tire store. Even the Tester told my Son he never passed one Like mine.
Well they ran it thru and it passed pretty easy!!:flipoff2: No one could believe it, including the Tester. So much for inefficeint non computer controled engines.
All I did is drop the Boost, Advance the timing to help level out the idle and lean the fuel injection out.
Now I get classic vehicle tags and no worries for the next 5 years.
I'll be in Kali next week!

Part of the reason your rig passed is they tested it to Scout standards for whatever year it is. I've done the same thing with hot rods in the past. Tweak here and there to get it through and change it back when done. Test it to 2003 standards and it will turn out different for sure.;)

I just got collector plates 2 weeks ago in anticipation of my Cad472 install. DMV said I'll never have to get emissions again. Of course, the law could change. Aren't they supposed to do a visual also to make sure all the emissions gear is in place?

In Georgia, the law is if your vehicle is 25 yrs or older you do not have to get emission tested. My scout is a 77, so this applies to me...but the motor i have is an 88 SBC, do i have to get tested. Or is it all based on VIN? I don't know too much on this stuff as far as laws and emissions.

You know what the sad part that happened today when I went to get plates? They NEVER asked for the emmission test report!!! Just proof of insurance. Why in the hell did I even run it thru the smog house. Next time I wont.:p

What I was told I had to have the same smog equipment for this engine that was on the original engine. I DON'T have a EGR and a PCV valve. I had those on the original engine. I guess its a don't ask, don't tell!! Thats why I was so happy about passing.:)

In California the smog station sends the info to DMV when they smog your vehicle. If your state is like CA, they would not need to ask for proof of smog because they have it.

They asked for mine. I don't think the computers are connected.

Dude, send the registration to a mailbox, that forwards to your new address. In 5 years, they will send you a renewal that won't need re-testing, meaning once you register it as a Classic, you leave smog testing behind you forever..
