For those that aren't, I apologise for the bandwidth:) Guide One, the former insurer of my 1992 900ss Ducati, are done insuring bikes. They were charging me $190 a year for full coverage. Anyone got a cost effective insuruer they like? Limited cruiser content: I hope to get my shop back on it's feet over the long holiday weekend. Moving sucks, "Shop in a crate" sucks. I need to get back to work! Alan in tornadoalley
cruzer75 07-03-2003, 07:16 AM I have Progressive for my motorcycle through an insurance broker and it is about the same amount as what you were paying...but for an 84 V45 Magna

John Smith 07-03-2003, 07:29 AM Progressive for my Honda 76 CB360T is $70 a year in the Washington DC Metro area. I am eligible for all discounts also (AMA, license over 10 years, no claims).
texican 07-03-2003, 09:36 AM You "ride'' bikes........you "drive" Cruisers....no wonder they don't want to insure ya':flipoff2: :flipoff2:

CanadianPigLover 07-03-2003, 10:05 AM You guys got it good, my BMW Dakar costs 1200 a year in good ole B.C. thats for full coverage, I fawkin hate ICBC!
Canadian, you need to look harder:) American Family, whom I have my bmwr11gs with, charges me $160 a year for full coverage. But I'm old, married and currently ticketless...They wont' cover Ducati's at all...
CanadianPigLover 07-03-2003, 10:14 AM ICBC(insurance company of british columbia) are crooks, they have a fixed rate, and depending on how long you have been riding, depends on how much of a discount you get, I have %40 which is pretty much the max, but things like theft and comprehensive cost a fortune! with less bikes on the road than cars, and far less accidents involving bikes than cars, I can only summise that us poor motorcyclists are subsadizing car owners in there insurance! O and ICBC has a monopoly in B.C. currently you can get aftermarket insurance, but thats only for things like comprehensive and theft, you still have to get the basic insurance through ICBC...
ROCK HUGGER 07-03-2003, 11:28 AM I pay $12 a month for my 82 Honda XL500r, through State farm.
190 bucks is pretty good. 300 bucks from Progressive for me that's for a Rebel 450. State Farms wanted 1,000 something or not to deal with it at all:eek:

Samurai Joe: Nice Duck! I guess I shoulda known there'd be other Ducatisti in the cruiser community:)
Live Rust 07-03-2003, 02:26 PM Love the Dakar! I was really into big rally bikes years ago, still love them but don't own one anymore since getting married. My wife had two old boyfriends die on motocycle accidents, knew she wouldn't be happy when I rode so I sold it. I had Honda's attempt at the BMW called the Transalp. Only made them for two years in the US. Still in production overseas. Was a decent bike.
V Twin engine, smooth on highway but could load up with gear and hit the dirt roads too. Always like the BMW more but $.
I also used Progressive and wasn't too costly.
1972 FJ40
1990 Honda Transalp (RIP)
dieselcruiserhead 07-03-2003, 03:15 PM Nice, haven't ridden too many crotch rockets but my college roommate was obsessed with Ducatis so I guess it caught on. MMM, Ducatis! Same deal vice versa, he bought an FJ40!
CanadianPigLover 07-03-2003, 05:58 PM Yeah, the transalp is nice, rented one in Italy, was a 2000 model, liked it, but my BMW seams to have more power.
