Hi again ya'all. Well, my spring saga continues. Here's my pregunta...

I'm now looking to keep my rear axle where it is. Basically I'm lazy and dont have the time to push my tank up through the tub nor am I interested in re-tubing my brand new rear shaft. Besides my front hangers are pushed out 4" so I'm running about 101" wheelbase anyway and my departure angle is sick. Sooo....
I'm going waggys front AND rear. NOt sure if 44044's or stock 7 leaves. We'll see.

Anyhoo, I'm curious. I know the short side is stock YJ length and the long side is about 2-4" longer. I know I'm going to run the short side forward on the front axle (for obvious reasons) but what about the rear. I can see guys wanting the wheelbase by running the long side on the frame hanger side, but I dont need it. Does it effect flex either way? Seems to me, the spring would basically flex the same short or long side forward. Ya, no?

Long-side forward may have more axle-wrap issues, but I assume you've got that covered already.
The only drawback I can think of is when the spring is at full extension you'll have a bunch of "fangs" poking WAY out in front of your rear tire, unless you keep the spring clamps in check.

Yup. Wrap bar is all fabbed up and ready to weld on, just waiting for the final angle. ;)

Clamps will prolly remain on and in place. I was just wondering if you lost flex or gained it by running long side forward or rearward.

Cripes, would you just throw some springs under that heep already?? :flipoff2:

Flex should be the same either way.

I know dood. I dont know what my problem is. I know one thing, I'm sick of leaf springs. I'm sick of them walking up, bending, sagging, breaking, wrapping and otherwise just giving me shit.

My question is answered. Thanks. I'll shut up now and post some pics when it's done. Actions shots. :D

I would think flex would be better with the longside forward. My reasoning is if the fixed end is longer it can twist more then a similar spring.

That's kinda what I thought too at first. I was thinking of it kinda like a swingarm on a motorcycle or a link. Longer the link, longer the travel.

But then I thought more about it. The short side would be on the shackle end and it would only limit the downward travel. When you picture it in your mind, it really does'nt matter.

I find it best to figure out shit like this with a beer in hand, looking at the rig in the shop.:D
