I have a friend that is buying a 2dr 94 xj and she wanted to know what the best out of the box lift was for them???? This will be her d/d so take that into acount. She wants 3"-4" of lift. Thanks

if it was my dayly driver personally i would by rustys lift. its cheaper and rides just as nice as anything else out there.

I'd do either a Rusty's 4.5" or Rubicon 4.5" - for that lift range.

Don't forget to plan for a SYE kit.

Ive got a rough country 4.5" lift on my daily driver. It rides good and has room for 33's. cost about 450 bucks! including everything you need.

RE 4.5

I have the Rusty's 6 inch and am very happy with it, i'm sure the 4 inch will be the same. Unless she wants extreme flex like Borton, i'd say go with Rusty.

RE 4.5 with the ZJ springs and new rear spring packs with give you 6 inches. Worked out great on a rig I built for my son, flexs awsome.

Go with RE not Rustys.

I have rustys and it has sagged really bad.

My freinds have RE and they love it, good ride on and off-road.

RE 4.5" lift with Tera or JKS discos. Even if Rusty's stuff was the best, he has had customer service issues with me and several of my friends. He's a hell of a nice guy, but tends to bend the truth at times.

If this is a pre '96 XJ you should be able to get away without a SYE. Just get a slip yoke from a stock YJ 231 and/or a TC drop if you're on a budget. Also a drive shaft from a ZJ is slightly longer and would help. I know a number of older XJ's at 5-6" w/out SYE's. Rustys: His stuff rides better and is quite soft.

However, the trade off for this is that you may get a bit of sag if you actually use it hard. My Rustys springs lasted better then stock ones did.

I RAN A RE WHEN I HAD MY '86, AWESOME RIDE! AS FAR A AN SYE, IF SHE'S ONLY GOING 4-5 INCHES THEN EITHER RUN IT AS IS OR JUST GET A LONGER SLIP-YOKE THEY WORK JUST AS GOOD. PLUS IT DOESN'T SOUND LIKE IT'S GOING TO BE ABUSED THAT MUCH..
ALSO WATCH THAT FRONT END WHEN IT GETTS FLEXED. IE BUMPSTOPS, IT'LL FLEX LIKE CRAZY.I TORE UP THE LOWER SHOCK MOUNTS ON BOULDER CREEK (ALASKA)

Rusty sells some great stuff. Mine hasn't sagged more than .25" in the past year or so, which isn't bad at all considering I flex the hell out of it and a little sag is expected with any lift. The ride is much improved over stock...err...well, it was until I broke the bar pins up front, and moved the shocks too far up in the rear...I really need to fix that <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Some people have had problems with Rusty's service and products, but I never have. In the many many many times that I have ordered stuff from him, asked some questions, or just BSed with the guy he has been nothing but helpful and provided me with awesome service. Most of the time the parts are to my door in about a week. Not bad seeing as how I live on the other side of the country.

RE makes some nice equipment too, and I will be running some of their goodies in the future. Not because I am no longer happy with Rusty's stuff, but because he just doesn't sell what I want/need.

Tell your friend to not even bother with a 3" kit. Waste of money. As soon as I put my first 3" kit (wanted to keep it small for a DD/mild wheeling while I built a CJ...which never happened) I started fabbing up new stuff and wishing I had gotten the 4.5" or higher. More money/fab time was spent on additional suspension stuff, and now I just need to pull it all and do what I should have done in the first place. Damnit.
