: NP4500/Np231 w Tera Low into 94 Ranger

My mechanic and I are working to put a Dodge NP4500 and NP231 into my 94 Ranger 4.0L.

We have a bell housing from a 2.9 that will get us to a T-5. He is planning on making an adapter plate so that the 4500 will mount to the housing.

Does anyone know of any issues with the 2.9 bell housing?

Does anyone know of other issues that we might run into with this swap?

I think that the input shaft on the 4500 might no be long enough. He seems to think that we can work around that somehow. We think that we have the clutch housing issues worked out as well.

Any other comments?

Thanks.

Dan

It looks like input shaft length is an issue.

My mechanis is going to check to see if it is the same issue with a Jeep T-5. If it is then he is going to shorten the bell housing for a fit since he would need to do this either way.

what t-case did you have originally? IF it was the 1354 manual shift, do you want to sell it? I have the electric shift and hate it.

You might check on the ranger station (http://www.therangerstation.com) forum for some good info. Those guys are pretty damn good with all things Ranger.

Thanks for the replies so far. This is good.

I have the electric shift t-case. Sorry. I liked the thing and it never gave me a problem. If anyone wnats one I will sell.

It turns out the that project is going the route of the World Class T-5 tranny. It bolts right up to the bell housing we have. The clutch yolk for it is also available. It is basically a bolt in.

As things sit now we will have the 4.0 connected to the World Class T-5 (4.3:1) and a NP231 w. Tera Low and SYE installed.

In the diffs we have 5.13 gears so I should be doing a little bit better on the trails than I am now.

The parts are being ordered today.

Best,

Dan

Don't forget to post some pics when you get the swap done. I would like to see it

Sure.

What I will more likely do is put a tech article about it on our club web site and link to it from here.

I will also be sure to give the RangerStation a heads up on it.

I have not heard about a lot of guys doing this swap so getting info out on it should be good.

Was just wondering what the world class t-5 is??? 4OR 5 speed?? Manual or auto??
And what t-cases will bolt up to it?

Rather than doing the 5.0 swap i might just leave in my 3.0L and do this if it can get me into the 80:1 100:1 range??? Im spinning 4.56 ring and pinnion??

The World Class T-5 is a high torque 5 spped manual tranny with improved synchronizers. Borg Warner makes it.

I don't know what t-case bolt to it but we are plugging in an NP231. To me that is a great start because I can get the 4:1 kit in there and go lower.

I am bolting it up to e 4.0 V6. I do not know what would be need to bolt it up to the 3.0. What we did was research on the generations of the 4.0 to see if there was ever a time when a bell housing was made for the block. (I oversimplified it but that is the idea). The current Ranger trannies do not have a bell housing.

I think that doing the research on the 3.0 might be needed to find out about the bell houing.

Once you know what bell housing you can use you then need to figure out what trannies will bolt up to it. The goal being to bolt something up that will give you options down the road.

With the stock Ranger set up you can't do crap. no Klune V. No Atlas. Nothing. With the T-5 I will suddenly have options.

I don't know if there is hope for the 3.0 owner. If I hear anything I will bring it up here.

Corrections/info

there is an atlas 2 offered to replace the borg warner tcases in ranger based vehicles if you got $2500.

the 3.0 is a stand alone motor and tranny.

Well, the truck is done. I just need to pay for it.

The mechanic is going to help me outline the work that he did so that others can do that same to their Ranger if they want.

I haven't driven it yet but the mathematical final drive ratio is about 90:1.

I will put the details of what was done up on therangerstation.com and then come back here to let you guys know it is there.

Best,

Dan

Yea, not only can you put an Atlas 2 behind it(now up to 5:1), you can also put a doubler in there too (built specifically for the RBV).. Swapping trannies isn't entirely required anymore... Though the stock trannies do still suck.

It's a logical mistake, there are New Process emblems all over it and it's made by the same people who made my NP241 t-case...
