: Project merkwürdig
Logjam-grant 08-10-2004, 01:32 AM I postponed the scout until it gets a bigger heart. I put the axles and tires on a F150. But I needed a break from that, so I got out my travelall to play with.

Boat tank gas tank in the cab, missing 6 rear body bolts, no front drive shaft, no rear brakes, 1 38x9 and 3 28x8s, 500w christmas lights, etc. Red Neck to the max. ;) (No, I never drove it like this)
I'm also going to take another stab at a D44 Portal this winter. Except it won't be ghetto fab.
ScoutIITD 08-10-2004, 04:00 AM It's summer time in Alaska = fishing time / wheeling and soon moose hunting.
I think we'll hear more in say October when things die down.
You can't waste the summer! :D

ScottFJ40 10-14-2004, 08:29 AM Hello?
Eagle-Mark 10-15-2004, 10:02 PM Sure hope to see that travelall lit up for Christmas !
Logjam-grant 10-16-2004, 01:31 AM The scout project is not on anymore No cab, too much work. The axles are on a 77 150.
However, my next project is:
1992 S-10 blazer
4.3 Vortec 700R4
Home made 34x18 tractor tires with 1.5" tread depth
HP 44 8 lug front and rear.
I parted out a 1981 van and somehow ended up with all this and cash to spare...

http://media.diywelder.com/images2/100504-rubber2_IMGP0172.jpg
But this is not the right thread for it. I'll probably make a thread in general and then put a link here so this can die. I'll aslo out a link to the F150 thread in the ford section.
Don't worry, I still plow the road and drivway with a scout... Would never plow with a full size unless I was forced to.
Oh yeah, the chevy drives fine. Pulls to the right, and the battery broke the front axle vacume bottle, so its 2wd for now. ;)
And about the christmas lights, I obtained an 800w inverter. The crew cab F350 will be bright this year. I should be able to run around 125 bulbs this year.
Edit: Might as well show the van removal process:

Cost me $45 to remove. :grinpimp:
Urban Wheeler 10-16-2004, 04:51 PM What are you doing with the Scout then?
As an aside, I found an alternator you might be interested in, 14 and 340 amps. IIRC. It's on a fire truck, I wrote down the make and model but I left it at work.
offroader1006 10-17-2004, 12:03 PM boo
ChinLei 10-20-2004, 11:43 AM I just wasted 2-1/2 hours at work reading the whole thread and it ends like this?
Copenhagen 12-29-2004, 05:48 PM This has been the best thread I've read, anywhere. I've sat here at work, drinking beer from the kegerator, for 2 unpaid hours reading this. But im left wondering, when am i going to see a vehicle in action..... Grant you are my freakin idol, you motivated me to actually go home and work on my junk....
what part of anchorage are you in?? I live in south anchorage (klatt rd area)
this thread kicks some serious ass, i wish i had the skills to make my own cnc table and fab half the shit you can, spent about 2 hours of reading this, and still aint got the slightest clue what is going on but this thread kicks ass. This thread has everything. some crazy guy wit a civic hatch with tractor tires and a boat hull, a s-10 being dragged by a back hoe, and a scout that is nuts, and if i understood you right your building a f-150.
ihcfire 01-01-2005, 10:49 AM Ich habe selten so über einen Forumbeitrag geschmunzelt und verstanden: Projekt "merkwürdig" > Der Weg ist das Ziel !!!
ihcfire 01-01-2005, 11:16 AM Question: Is he eventually the incarnation of
Gyro Gearloose (englisch)
Géo Trouvetou (französisch)
Willie Wortel / Willy (holländisch?
And "Daniel Düsentrieb" is the German figur of Gyro Gearloose.
Ich habe selten so über einen Forumbeitrag geschmunzelt  und verstanden: Projekt "merkwürdig" > Der Weg ist das Ziel !!!
Sorry to the English community, " merkwürdig " has double sense in German of which both fit. "Worth to be remarked" and "curious". And his project has both of it, right?
This guy has a special sense of humor I like very much and he must have some German origin and a heritage of what we call " Eigenbrötler " over here.
IHCfire wishes to all of you a happy New Year
Logjam-grant 01-02-2005, 02:18 AM The scout is parked, the good scout is in the garage waiting for paint, the blue 304 scout is still plowing snow, the travelall has 38's on the front-28s on the back, dually on one side-and no front driveshaft. Got a new F350 7.3 diesel (the power stroke, of course!!!) crew cab to tow with, got a 1967 M35 6x6 because I thought that would be a cool tow rig. Sold the van's engine for $100 and an HP44, which I'm going to sell to some other guy for $250 with an 8.8. Sold the front D60 king pin and conversion van transfer case and with the cash bought a 1994 blazer s10 with the 4.3 vortec, overdrive auto, and some weird transfer case (all I know about it is the chain is wider than the jeep version, that's enough for me. ;) ).
After spending the past week coaching the engine out of the blazer I am about to go insane. What's good about the tanks that IH made? a 1/2 and 9/16" socket will take apart 99% of the vehicle! Oh, and you can also reach pretty much any bolt without taking the fenders off and raising the body 6"!
I have a new project, which while not really IH anymore, will get the IH logo and love that the logo commands. ;) After all, a sami buggy built on a tube frame with 60s and a chevy 350...is still a sami? ;) IH skin, whatever else I find to put under it!
This project will resemble more of a tractor than a traditional buggy or truck, and I don't know if it will even work...
I'm saving the travelall to make a snow plow vehicle. There is a 30,000lb chasis from a Oshkosh snowblower that someone wants to sell for $800. If he can go down that would be cool. Shorten the wb from 200" to 100", plop the 345/727/202 on top of that thing, and have instant traction. The only problem with scouts is that they don't weigh enough. I've got mine full of cement blocks and with 7" wide tires and ice grip snow chains the tires keep slipping... :grinpimp:
Logjam-grant 01-02-2005, 02:22 AM Oh, I don't really speak german. I was choosing a password for a friends e-mail account. He is austrian. I looked up strange in google and that's what it came out to be. I'm glad that it actually applies to me, that's cool. Huj maj beQ in klingon means "strange work", but it doesn't quite roll off the tip of your tongue. Plus the klingon translation page kinda said you had to pronounce the words like your yelling softly and angry...
Chief yelling alot 01-02-2005, 11:01 PM man I was wondering if this thred would ever popup agane
just get out of hibernation logjam?
bigblack'74 01-08-2005, 10:41 AM anymore?
rsegriggy 01-21-2005, 04:17 AM Is this what normally goes on in Alaska?
Found this story:
Wasilla man constructing 18-foot-tall not-a-robot
Machine may prove helpful by shooting nine-inch nails from the shoulders and 20-foot flames from forearms

It makes me wonder if you guys get together and discuss some of these projects.
cat_fish 01-28-2005, 12:57 PM You need your own TV show.
mrnaynay 07-30-2005, 11:54 AM The thread is too long to read right now, but I have one question: would you reccomend me not tackling the project of putting rockwells on my 70 bronc?

That sounds like your talking yourself out of it before you even asked the question? If you want to do then do it... If you have the need for the parts then put them to use. There are challenges in every project no matter how big or how small....

Rocks are good under anything. Run a link system, and make sure the chunk clears everything. Typically you'll have to move it forward a few inches of where your stock front was, to clear the pulleys and crap on the front. Make sure you check your drivelines and make sure they clear at full stuff. Other than that rocks are awesome, and cheap compared to a full tilt Dana 60.
Scout_Crash 07-31-2005, 11:08 AM A little scary, totally crazy, but mad props to the customization skills. Looking to do new axles under my '76. Well after I get it running right...kinda a big project this one is... This thread is good for inspiration
