Swapping the whole axle is the easiest way. I've heard rumors of Dodge people swapping on discs and retaining their closed knuckle axle, but I've never seen anything diffintive.

Just hunt for a '76-'77 1/2 D-44 for dics and the stock low-pinion, or '77 1/2-'79 D-44 for high pinion.

That sucks. Thought i found a good deal on a tow rig. 76 and up came with discs? I was hoping to stay under 74 for smog. What about 2wd?

If I got a disc brake front end would I need a new master cylinder also?

2 wheel drive trucks got disc brakes as early as '68 and maybe even '66. '68 for sure though. It was an option but it is easy enough to find them even now for those years.

You can put disc brakes on the 73 closed knuckle d44 F250 using 3/4 ton chevy stuff ei spindles, caliper brackets, hub rotors, calipers,
you may need to have a bronze spindle bushing made to fit the spindle and outer axle stub

I have done this conversion my self and seen a couple of others done also
