: Shock angle

I will be mounting 14" Swayaway RaceRunner shocks to the rear of my 61 scout. I'm wondering what is the best angle to heve the shocks mounted in terms if their relation to a straight line grawn thru the middles of the tires, or parallel to the frame.

I've never heard much discussion, I know way more than a 45 deg angle for instance, I'll be cutting the bed so that's not an issue.

Building the rig to handle jumping and be a crawler for the con also. Just swapped in the 9" with full size Ford leaves.

thanks

the greater the angle from vertical, the less efective they are, but generaly will alaow more articulation.

They also won't fade as quickly, since they're not damping as much. :D

I mounted my 9012's straight up and down on my 79 Scout, and their way too stiff, even set on '1'. I'm gonna try them at about a 22 1/2 deg. angle...

Way to stiff damping what??? Un-sprung weight has a huge affect on what shocks to run. My 37"s with the wheels are 88 lbs each companied to a 31" tire and wheel combo and ~50. Having a 60 vs a 44 is going to add a need for more damping as well.

I have my rear shocks(skyjacker nitros) mounted on the outermost part of the axle(corporate 14 bolt)
and at about 85 degrees and I beleive they are too stiff with my steel rock crawlers and 38 TSLs. I don't have the cage in yet so am reserving judgement. In contrast, on the front 1 shock is simply not enough with the weight fo the motor on 1 side and the 60 on the other side.

Thanks for the info fellas, I think I'll run them at a slight forward angle, I also had a rvelation last night to have a setup for the sand and fire roads and a setup for the rocks and slower trails, I have enough shocks laying around, I don't think I could get max flex with the swayaways as I have to run bumpstops and limiting straps, but if I'm going for max flex I'll mount the shocks close together at the top and apart at the axle and let the cheapy shocks be limiting straps and bumpstops when they bottom out at max flex. This revelation occured at 11pm last night to have dual options incorporated in my shock mount buildup for the bed. I'm rambling at this point but thanks again for the advice.

Just welded up my spare. It's a US Wheel black daytona (17x9) with a MRT 40 bolt beadlock kit and a 37x12.5x17 MTR . It tips the scales at 139lbs!
