Well for a newbie at least he knows 1) edit his mistakes, 2) pick fights with guys across the country and 3) send the smack flying back.
Welcome
First off, you need a note from Mom saying you can mod her jeep and take it wheeling second, you need front tow hooks. (10 bucks) and 4 new bolts (3 bucks) and a strap ( 30 bucks ) so we can drag you outta the way when you get hung up.
Oh, and get a job. Your gonna need it

rokryder 10-03-2001, 12:43 PM Go buy some skid plates - Gas tank & oil pan & some good rocker bars (no tube crap)a strap/cumalong and a friend to pull you're ass out. I have a 2.5" on my Tj and its been through twice with 30" tires no problem and oh yeah newbie
What do you need?
Honestly: experience.
Go wheel it as it is. Learn what it can do, what it can't do. Do that for a year, then you'll know first hand what you need, what you want, and what you don't.
Welcome.
Oh, and you NEED to lose the attitude.
Wolverine 10-03-2001, 09:32 PM All you gay fawkers need to shut the hell up with the newbie bashing.Welcome newbie!.We all had to start somewhere. I think you should get a rear locker ,gears,And some sort of a gear reduction.Have fun wheeln
Littlex 10-03-2001, 09:48 PM I agree with mo. Run it like it is and them modify what you need. Youn learn more and learn what your mods. do for you.and WELCOME

If you bought your Jeep with $$ you earned, good for you. We've all seen (and I'm sure you have too) way to many spoiled kids who were given everything they wanted, don't know the value of hard work, and have a sh|tty attitude to boot.
You came in with the attitude, and that doesn't help. If you honest want to learn, just spend an hour or four reading this site. Just start reading the past posts. There's more info here than anyone would ever need to build a capable jeep.
That said, I still think you should just wheel it like it is, get stuck a few times, and then figure out what you want. Then find out how to do it.
Excellent first mod: Tow hooks front and rear and a strap. Cheap, and incredibly useful.

tjb1984 10-04-2001, 06:10 PM How about people answer his questions, and not just taking over his thread. Isn't that what the bulletin board is for? To get help.

Excuse me... what did I do?
Yes, this board is for learning... however, this board is generally NOT for learning the most basic stuff. Those that frequent this board tend to have some experience, knowledge and little tolerance for those that don't do their homework.
Come in and ask questions, sure. But don't come in here asking what my first mod should be. First thing you should do is join a club, wheel what you've got, learn about your vehicle, its capabilities and yours.
Then, after you've done a bit of homework, ask intelligent questions.
There are plenty of sites with the basics. You can find the basics here. You can even ask for the basics here. Just make sure you've got a thick skin, a good sense of humor, and a little respect for those already here. Come in here talking shit, and you'll be beaten down.
Now, where's that Mission Statement???
Here, read the
Mission Statement (http://www.pirate4x4.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=4&t=002536)

I know. My last comment was directed at TJB1984. He's the one I quoted.
Now go wheel that thing. Get stuck. Break something. Then upgrade.

seRob 10-05-2001, 09:46 PM Hey fawkers, at least the newbie wants to go help with the cleanup.
Okay newbie, this is what you need to do. Definitely go get some experience before hitting the con. Isn't there an off-road park around your area??? Seriously, find some people in your area and go out to some of the easier trails. You'll find out right away what you'll need for your Jeep.
That's what I did. Spent a year on various runs, building up my skills, then I was able to run the con, stock. And drove it home back to the bay area...
Your Jeep is off to a good start, but only experience will really tell you what you'll need. Don't just go out and buy a bunch of lights and crap, you may find out later that it was a waste and you'l never use them. I also recommend not hitting the con just yet, especially if you're on a limited budget. You WILL break something, and spare parts aint cheap.
Now do some reading in the archives and quit posting questions that will only get you flamed
oh, yea, and welcome
NewBeJeeper 10-07-2001, 07:05 PM Well i made it to the con. Yes i dont know how but i did take my jeep into the con as far as the granite bowl. i would have gone farther but i scared some of my riders so they wished to go back (what an excuss) any ways i had a lot of fun.
yes i do agree that experience is the key i have taken my jeep to bassy falls and prarie city serveral times so i do have some experience, and some of my friends were there that had several years of experience so all in all it wasnt the worst of trips
thanks for the help with everything
ooo ya lets just hope that the go that er and god bless the
Steve N 10-07-2001, 10:08 PM OK here's my .02. Loose the swearing, Newbie's or not. Lance's site Lance's rules. I happen to agree. And being as I'm not I don't want to hear about your unit, and how flexy or not it is. As to what you need, get some good rocker protection. ( I know a certain moderator that has some for sale near you) Listen to Mo, Just wheel it.
