: People are scum of the earth
Belly Dragger 07-08-2003, 05:27 PM Just thought I'd share.
Since I've been doing retail I get to see a lot of people and it simply amazes me what people will do, say or steal. I had a guy steal a $8 scanner antenna and the same day someone else stole a $2 pack of connectors. Unbeleiveable. I mean if you get caught you may do time if not have your "record" tainted all for a couple of bucks. Absolute pigs.
I had a guy come in and tell me the salesman that helped him said that the extended warranty covers everything and that he would get a new phone, replaced on the spot, because he drove over his new cell phone. I asked him, "Who was your salesman?" He said, "Michael". Really? I'm Michael and I never said that to anyone. Freaking liars. And if your going to make up some shit and accuse someone of saying something, you really should know who your talking to. :shaking:
Yep I've concluded that people are the scum of the earth and most (MOST not all) will do, say or steal anything to try to get something for nothing or something for their own mistakes.
MossMan 07-08-2003, 05:29 PM I think any job in Retail will give you the opportunity to meet the absolute DUMBEST PEOPLE ON EARTH at least 10 times
a week!:flipoff2:
The scum that broke into my house in '94 actually took leftover packets of ketchup from McDonalds
Screwzer 07-08-2003, 05:53 PM Yeah, I did a stint as an owner of an Internet Cafe for 5 years. You sure do see it all. In our case, we felt like we were "Jenny (my wife) and Clark's Charm School". Had to teach young teenagers how to behave in public places, etc. etc.
I think what really bugged me was the folks (usually adults) who did their best to rip us off in little "innocent" ways. Like the bank president's wife who would grab our stamp and fill in her free drink card. Or the fellow merchant in town that would buy a regular 75 cent cup of coffee until he got to his "free" spot on his card when he'd order a triple flavored mocha.
Worst had to be employee theft though which happened in many creative ways. We had everything from toilet paper to coffee stolen. Funny thing is when they're caught its "what's the big deal? It's only a $5 lb. of coffee" Wrong: Its $50 in lost sales and double the cost of goods on the next lbs. worth of coffee.
Funniest incident was when Jenny wa givin our food rep hell over all the half empty cans of whipping cream. "You got a wiffer" he declared. Sure enough it was party time when we we'rent there with the ballons and Nitrous Oxide (from the whip cream propellant).
Of course, I can go on and talk about the need to cut a slice out of a pie, even though there's a sign in front of it so folks will stop asking "Are there cherries in that Cherry pie?"
Retail was one hell of an experience for me. I'm back to and will stick with B to B anyday.
sorry TEX I meant to return those to ya. :D
My Favorite was the lady that tried to get a free Pizza because hers came too fast. It got there in like 15 minutes, I quoted her 15-20 minutes because she was right around the corner and we were dead.

yeah that too.
Kensoffroad 07-08-2003, 06:48 PM I've worked for Walmart & Mervyns. I think women are way worse then men when it comes to shop lifting. When I worked for Mervyns women would come in to the undergarmet section and switch their bras for new ones.
The worst thing I found was when I went to check the ladies fitting rooms for the extra garmets. Tucked under the lil chair was some bikini panties. I grabbed a hanger to drag them out & it was enough to make me barf! Nothing like bloody with holes:eek:

Toy 4Runner Man 07-08-2003, 09:09 PM Actually the weirdest one I heard was a lady at the shop next to ours, at a child's clothes store. The owner always had big boxes of free clothes that she couldn't sell, for those that couldn't afford any for their children. Some lady, one day, was in there acting weird, when all of the sudden she grabs a large arm full of the "Free clothes", and runs out the door!
Oh, and then there was the break in at our cell phone store. The front door was busted in, and they took all the display phones in the case. They ignored the cash register, or all of the real phones 10' away in the back.
Oh, and don't even get my wife started about this subject, she is a Manager at K-Mart!
larryboy 07-08-2003, 09:24 PM the commercial counter guy at the kragen i frequent loves the shoplifters!!! he runs them down, gets his parts back and takes all their $$,even keeps their id if they have it. if they want to fight he beats them up. now that is customer service.:D
MikeW 07-08-2003, 09:34 PM Walmart is a freak show with free admission, and home of the dumbest people in the world.
One day at work, when I stocked Coke products in the coolers at Walmart, one slipped out of the coolers and, kind of exploded.
So I went to get a mop and bucket. I was told by one of the checkout managers I need to ask the greeting lady for a mop bucket.
So I say I need a mop bucket. So she comes out with a mop, I say wheres the bucket. Comes out with a bucket, but no fawking wring attachment!!! I was too fawking pissed to ask for it.

EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
I owned a Paint and Glass Business. One day I saw some perp walk in and down one Isle and pick up 2 five gallon buckets of paint....he brought them up to the counter and said " I had these left over from a job.... I need a cash refund!"
I said Ok no problem... all I can give you without receipt is $9.11
"wtf....$9.11?? I have to call 911 for authorization, can you hold on a minute while I call?
The guy looked at me , turned and ran like a gazelle out of the store:rolleyes:

Hahaha we had the same thing happen a few times.
Back in the days before portable we had displays of working installed phones. Some nutball busts the window and steals all the handsets. The transmitters were all in cabinets below.
About a month later some jack off comes in with a handset and wants it installed. Called the cops because it was one of our stolen ones. He had bought it thinking he had the whole phone. Nope no transmitter or wiring.
rotozuk 07-09-2003, 12:52 PM Back in my retail days... long ago..
I had an employee that was on break eating a sandwich in his car watching a couple of little boys, maybe 10 years old tag the side of our building. Several people are in the parking lot and do nothing. So he finishes his lunch, locks up the car and grabs the boys and brings them into the store.
Not only were these kids stupid enough to tag our walls with people all over the place, but they had even stolen the spray paint from our store. Seems they had good role models as both of their fathers were in jail.
The store was a hobby shop, and we had constant issues with theft. Emplyees it turned out were taking as much as customers. We had one kid on the register that was well trusted. He was netting a couple of hundred bucks a night, cash. His drawl always balanced out. He was taking the money from the customers.
My favorite was the gangster style grab and runs. We had a busy street out front. couple of guys come into the store around xmas. We are busy.. Guys target a couple of expensive RC car kits. They grab as many as they can, run for the door, and hope into the car that is waiting to speed off... they would have made it except for the car the pulled into, and the boxes they grabbed only had a block of wood in them. So instead they got a hit and run.

paniolo 07-09-2003, 03:14 PM haha, well in retail on average your employees ALWAYS steal more than the shoplifters.
When I managed an antique store, I noticed my best employee had put his alarm code to enter the store after hours. (he was also a good friend ) Started checking into his transactions and finally figured out he was changing taxable transactions to tax exempt and pocketing the sales tax. I guess he figured that way he was only stealing from the State of TX. Never was able to figure out how long he had been doing it or how much he got. I was able to identify several hundreds that he took though.

Is the S.O.B. in jail ????? I sure hope so.
fj40john 07-09-2003, 04:01 PM seen a lot of scum in the jobs I have worked.
The best thing I ever saw anyone do to prevent theft was a local guy who owns an Ace hardware. He arranged to have a post office set up in his store, so now anyone who shoplifts is committing a federal offense :D
Taggetter4vr 07-09-2003, 04:37 PM I have a question for every one on here..
Have you ever forgot you brought your kid(s) into a store with you?
Whe I was working for BB i had this lady comein with hr 2yr old little girl. it was a friday night and the store was pack. being a parent i keep my eyes open for the little ones in the store. ot even 10 mins. later i see this child wander out the front door, mom was no where near. Jumping the couner and almost plowng into customer i raced out and grabbed the little girl up in the parking lot. cars and trucks were speeding by. i go back in to my work with a sreaming kicking child and mom just appears and says thank you, i forgot i brought her in. my reply was:"i am sure the peole driving throuh te prking lot would of thought of her as a speed bump"
She walked out pissed dragging the kid but I couldn't believe it. How can you forget you have your child with you?
jds4x43 07-09-2003, 05:43 PM you should work "security" or loss prevention. I have people on campus daily that I know are stealing shit left and right but our administration won't let me do anything. Over Christmas break one night the alarm went off 6 times on one of our buildings, which was locked and alarmed. Each time nothing found, nobody in the building. The nest morning the staff reports a loss of $90. We pulled the alarm records and found out who was entering the building and disarming the alarm adn found out it was going off when they;d try to re-arm the system due to the wrong pass code. Come to find out their concession stand cash drawer had counted out $20-50 short each night for a week. We got a confession to myself and the police but the campus admins still wouldn't press charges because this guy was a "good employee".
Pissed me off.

Lil Uzi 07-09-2003, 06:30 PM I worked retail back in 93-94. It was a humbling experience. Everyone wants something for free. I spent over 45 minutes explaining and demoing a very stout, expensive German Kayak Paddle to some clown. It would support your body weight if you stood on it between two chairs. I threw it across the showroom and let it clatter to the floor, to remerge without a scratch for a demo of its toughness. The fiberglass paddles would have shattered. They were impressed. I fit them correctly, which is absolutely critical for safety and enjoyment, then they said "Thanks, we're going to REI to get it on sale." Save what, $5 on a $175 paddle ? I chewed ass for like 10 minutes. It felt good. The guy ended buying all kinds of shiat he couldn't ever use he felt so guilty. If you're used to working for your self, supported by your wits and skill, like Belly did, then you have to deal with the "public", its a real eye opener. Live and learn !!! Remember these people all drive, breed, and vote. Its scary......... Hug your dog !!! Woof !!!
