Okay... the time has come to regear my XJ in hopes of getting a little life back in it. I'm goin to 4.56 on my D30 and 8.25. What I need to know is do I need to purchase an install kit for each of my axles or can I use my old stuff? If you cant tell...I'm working with a very limited budget here and if I can save $200 on install kits then hells ya! Let me know what you think. BTW...this is on a 2000 XJ that has been pretty well maintained.

Thanks for any input

not to be a smart ass but it's a shitty job to begin with so why take a chance on having to redo it in a few months???

I would get the install kits and replace all the bolts ect, used in the diff. You will probably need a new carrier as well. The reason people have bolts fail in their regeared or redone rearends is because they reused the old bolts. The bolts could have cracks in them or are probably enlongated from being torque, reusing them is get asking for them to break.

You will need a new carrier for the front end. And deffinatly get the install kits.

Does the instal kit come with a new carrier? If not, why would I need a new carrier?

I've never done this before so its all new to me. :)

Install kits don't come with a new carrier, You will need one because of the carrier split. On the front it is 3.55 down and 3.73 and up.

If you don't have good knoledge of how everything works have someone else do it. If you still want to do it your self, buy a cheap press from harborfreight and a bearing Seperator, they will pay for themselfs by the time you are done.
