I have the stock two barrel on my 351M (M for muscle). Now that it has gotten cold it idles up at 1100 regardless of where it adjust the idle set screw. If I put my foot under the pedal and kick it up then it idles at a normal RPM. I fawked with the thermostatic choke control also and that had no effect. It runs up at 1100 when warm and w/ choke open, I sprayed Carb cleaner on linkage that didn't help either sh!t Fawk!!

Check the play in the throttle shaft. it may be too loose and will give inconsistent idle speeds.
